Compile Linux

(cottonseed) #1

Hey everyone I am almost done with the mini mod I am making and was wondering if someone can either teach me if possible with MS Visual C++ 08, or compile my source for me for Linux.
Thanks guys

I am using MS Visual C++ 6, on windows. I dont think theres a lot of difference between those. Do you have Skype or xFire?

Actually there is,
Get a copy of Cygwin, this is a sort of linux simulator, which gives you the posibility to use programs like Make, GCC or any other tool for that matter.

Get a copy of Cygwin …

yupp thats right … ive heard you already working on a tutorial for it

Cygwin is easy, just download the installer which also works as packet manager:
setup.exe. The rest is just plain Linux stuff, so you can use the Linux tutorials.

I download it and gave it a try… I think I am a little out of my league with this one. Its like chinese to me even following the ‘tutorial’. Maybe someone has a easier to follow tutorial then the one thats a stickey?

Well, if you don’t know how cygwin works, then you could try to use a real linux OS.

Get a copy of Virtual PC(should be free), and download a linux ISO.
Fedora Core is free project for linux based on RedHat. You can download Fedora Core here:
http://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/publiclist

Make sure you’ve got the latest stable version(6, i386).

Now when you’ve downloaded either the 5 discs or the dvd, you can ‘insert/mount it’ in your virtual pc.
Perhaps this would help you; http://acs.pha.jhu.edu/~shy/vpc-windows/

Let us know where you get.
