Compile crashes

Hi

I’ve lots of problems when compiling my maps. I’ve tried this on serval maps including goldrush.map.

GtkRadiant-1.3.8-ET, Windows xp service pack 1, ati 9800, pentium 4 2.4, 512 mb ram

I think this is a known bug.

You can try upgrading to the latest build of GtkRadiant (1.3.11) and Q3Map (2.5.5-test-13) and see if the crash still happens.

I installed both, loaded the my new radiant version, loaded my map and tried bsp_Q3Map2: (final) BSP -meta, -vis, -light -fast -filter -samples 2 -bounce 8

I failed like before. I can do it again if someone needs the error message that were displayed.

Hi!
I almost always do it in steps. Im “inside” radiant, and click on the menu and choose BSP. I do the bsp first. Then the vis and light. Sometimes when I do a vis or light, it crashes. Then I try vis fast and/or light fast, instead. Usually it works.
So, I try different ways, until it works.
When I do the final compile, to make the finished product, I do bsp and vis fast (vis normal took too long time) and light. plus that -filter and bounce 8. The bounce 8 make nices lights/shadows.

This way works for me too. (Sometimes this also crashes.)

It had been nice to know about these problems before we tried all sorts of things to fix them. In the radiant manual there is a note for bugs, but this problem is not described.

Where can I submit bug for the game itself?

Bugs:

  • /devmap boots my computer after I’ve played when I press exit game
  • When checking on friendly fire on my server it really turns it off
  • Stopwatch won’t work with my map if I use dedicated server, but it works if I don’t use dedicated.
  • If I have lots of pk3 files in my etmain directory, they are all required to be downloaded before joining even if I only run 1 of my 12 maps on my server.

Suggestions:

  • There should be a way to stop the listing of servers without joining a game. If I click on one it has already been replaced by another and I join the wrong one.
  • It had been nice to see how many connected clients, map and left time there is when hosting a dedicated server so I know when to shut down.

I get these exact errors on my Windows 2000 machine, but not on my old Win98 Machine. Running 1.3.8 so I’ll try the update, but wondered if anyone got this fixed besides the work around.

EDIT: Downloaded GTKRadiant-1.4.0 from http://www.geradiant.com loaded the same map, compiled perfectly.

don’t use radiant at all for compiling the map.
get the latest q3map2 and use a front end program or batch file for compiling. this also gives you the benefit of using the new features of the latest version of the compiler since radiant is always a few versions behind.

Seperately… make sure you’re not installing the newer Q3map2 into the GtkRadiant directory if you’re using Q3map2 2.5.15. That will kill things faster than you can imagine.
