Competitive Rank

How does rank work? I haven’t moved in over 10 games.

It seems after 11 games you get a rank, so once you play 11 you should get a rank.

If you mean that you got a rank but haven’t ranked up, I have no idea. I’ve only played 11 and stopped after I got my rank.

Hi there,

So far no-one can tell you (except devs) how the ranking EXACTLY works.
What we do know is the following:

  • Matchmaking and ranking are still a little buggy, but they are working on it.
  • The ranking itself works on the ELO-rating. I have to write a book, if I would explain to you how it works. I’ll explain it in common language: Winning from opponents who have a better rank then you do, will cause you to earn more points. Losing from an opponent who has a worse rank than you do, you will lose alot of points. Winning from an enemy with a worse rank than you do, will gain you just a few points.
As far I know there is no way you can see how many ‘points’ you have earned.
Therefore, no-one actually knows for sure when he will gain/lose a rank.
You can have an idea, but you won’t know for sure. That’s why it would be nice if a dev could explain the multipliers they attached to their ELO systems.

You must see the ranks (Gold 1, Gold 2, …) as 1000 points, 900 points,…
Whenever you reach/lost an amount of points, you will rank up or rank down.

Every ELO system can be unique depending on how the developer(s) coded the elo-system.
But most of the time, if you want a decent elo system you have to follow some rules.
Those rules are to complicated to explain, but again I’ll try to explain where I can.

In every GOOD ELO-sytems it is possible to calculate the %win chances a person(in this case a team) will have.
Lets say Nexon or Splashdamage (no idea who is doing what), made the highest rank (Elite) a total points of 500.
Then lets assume TEAM A has an average of 200 points, TEAM B 225 points (using rounded numbers). Than will TEAM B have 53% chance of winning. And TEAM A will have 47% chance of winning.

For developers it’s important to calculate the win% chances. It’s something they can use to check if their ELO-sytem is correct.
For example: When they notice that values are deviating from the Standard deviation from a team performance, they know there is something wrong in their ELO. (I guess this is what happened when they had to reset ranks, when Beta was still closed. => pure speculation, not sure. For as far I know, their database could have been whiped out  ).

Why the win% chances are also important: Lower win% chances, will earn you more points if you win. Hence my explanation from the beginning of this post.

I hope that helped you a bit?
Summary: We can’t tell for sure how the ranking EXACT works, but I should have given you a good idea.

Edit:
I haven’t moved in over 10 games.
This should be explained as well…
Because you didn’t earn enough points to get a better rank than the one you have now.

You said you played 10 games, but didn’t rank up. So we can conclude:

  • You lost a couple of games?
  • You lost from a really low-ranked team?
  • You won from low-ranked teams?

All 3 ‘hyphens’ stand for a OR-statement.

Btw: Actually I’m starting to calculate the points I should have earned.
i’m calculating with VERY SIMPLIEFIED elo-ranking of max 1000points.
If anyone can give me data, it would be great.

no rank = <100
bronze 5 = 150
bronze 4 =200

Elite = 1000 points.

Thanks for the insight. I have, since this thread, moved up 2 ranks. I hope the ability to see progress comes sooner than later.
