Competitive Problems

Just played a game with a couple of friends, we all enjoy the game a lot and have been playing a lot recently, mostly competitive matches. During one of our comps today we played on Chapel, the enemy team repaired the EV around 30 seconds faster, and then escorted it and finished the second objective. They were not able to finish the third objective and they ran out of time. We switched and we were placed on attackers, as I stated before we repaired the EV 30 seconds later then they did. We then escorted the EV very fast, 4 minutes faster then they did. We were then unable to complete the third objective. In the end we finished both the objectives around 4 minutes before they did but they still won because they were able to repair the EV faster. Why did we lose when we had better time doing the second objective and in total had a way better time overall. We beat them in time and still lost, if anyone has an explanation to this or if this is just how it is right now all comments will be appreciated, thanks.

Edit: One of my friends just informed me that they had the full time to capture as many objectives as they could from the start of the match, and we only had up to the time it took them to get there second objective. We lost out on quite a bit of time and probably could of finished the game and finished the third objective. I hope this can help the devs improve the competitive because I now see a lot of players trying to improve their skills and get higher ranks and I just want the best experience for everybody :D.

I don’t know what actually did happen, but that is not how stopwatch works.

  • If both teams complete the same number of objectives, the team that reached this point sooner is the winner. If we use the timings you give above, that would be your team. Only the total time taken to reach the most recent objective is used.
  • If one team completes more objectives than the other, that team wins regardless of how long it took.
  • If the first team to attack finishes all objectives, then and only then will the next half have a reduced time limit.

There are only three ways that you could have lost this match. Either the other team actually did finish the final objective and you didn’t notice, or you miscounted the timings (available on tab and at match end), or some manner of bug occurred.

Your friend may have mistakenly believed you had reduced time - when the first half ends in a defenders win the tab screen is a little misleading. Specifically, everything after the most recent objective the attackers completed is coloured black instead of red/blue. If that was the final objective, it really does end the match here, but otherwise you play on into that black section in case you can also take the objective after. For example, if in the first half the attackers finished stage 1 in 30 seconds and stage 2 30 seconds later, then failed to finish stage 3, the next half would receive a full 15 minutes. If team 2 takes 10 minutes on stage 1, then a further minute each for the next two, taking a total of 12 minutes, then team 2 wins. If team 2 finish stage 2 before the 1 minute mark, they will play on but will win regardless of whether they finish stage 3. If team 2 take longer than 1 minute to finish stages 1&2, and cannot complete stage 3, only then will team 1 win.

Maybe it’s whoever gets furthest (In EV missions), I was on bridge and my team was defending first, they did the first objective to repair the EV in around 1 and a half minutes. Then, we defended before they completed the second objective. When we were attackers, we repaired the EV in around 3-4 minutes, clearly a much longer time to complete the objective. Like the enemy team, we didn’t make it to the second objective, however our EV made it further down the road and closer to the second objective. We ended up winning the match even though their times were a lot faster than us, but our EV traveled further than theirs.

This is just my experience, maybe it was a bug or something but I remember because I was on teamspeak with 2 buddies and was like “We need to complete it or we lose because they did the first objective faster”, turns out we won anyway and we were all happy.

Known bug. Sometimes it displays a loss when you win, sometimes you actually lose when you win. It’s only happened to me twice.
