Competitive Missions? Bad idea.

(LITTERB0X) #1

It should be obvious, but: Competitive mode is about competition. Incentivizing random players to join competitive matches for credits diminishes the over all quality of the competitive environment. (inb4 hackers did that already.) Rather than playing against players who have made the conscious decision to play competitively against other like-minded players, you are now instead paired up with and against players who have been lured into playing the game mode purely for mission-profit.

Missions should be mode-neutral, and achievable regardless of play-mode, allowing both competitive and non-competitive players alike to complete missions and earn credits.

I too do not like them. I’ll play MM from time to time but only with people I know and I don’t want to miss out on a mission because those players aren’t on and I certainly do not want to solo queue.

(Monty) #3

Yeah, I only do competetive for the mission credits. Most of the time I do not even play as seriously as I do in ‘non-competetive’ - I just want the mission to be over and cash in the credits.

But in the mission’s defence, it is a good way to make people try out different game modes. Even if some do dislike, and the situation has been improved due to the removal of ‘win’ mission conditions.

There should be an extra incentive for people to try out new modes rather than a gating of your normal credit income. Currently there is an extra incentive as you get credits for your first comp match of the day. Perhaps that should be advertised in the UI more so people are aware of it. Something like, “You still need to get 1 stopwatch and 1 competitive match in for an extra 500 credits each”.

That would be much better than simply gating normal income if you don’t want to do competitive.

What do you mean by credits? Extra credits or bonuses like first win of the day? Because i didn’t noticed any bonus anytime i played in comp

Luckily I haven’t got one yet, and I would never wanna get one.

My first (and only) two missions in comp were because of the mission, and I actually had a blast. My only negative about the mission being in the pool right now is that I don’t feel like comp is “ready” yet, based on the regular posts here. My 2nd match took 5 attempts to actually get a 5v5 going, so the matchmaking is still off. Once (if?) we have a stable gamemode, and people are finding suitable matches, I don’t see a huge issue with pugging one match.

I’d would rather it be “earn ‘x’ XP in competitive” over “win 1 match”, or an alternative could be: “Win 1 or play 2 matches in competitive”.

I don’t even try I press X cause I want the game to be fun while i’m doing my missions

Well,if that “Win 1 match” is in general then still can be in pair with earn x XP in competitive.

Alternative also sound like a good plan for Nexon(but only make that one for 3 star credit reward).

I think comp missions are a good idea. 80% of the problems of competive mode is due to not enough people playing it at any given time. That mode needs as much incentive to draw players in as possible.

Look at it this way if the playerbase were large enough and you made your 10 games to get a rank, you would play a couple of matches against equally skilled people. Not worse than playing X amount of regular objective or stopwatch matches against uneven teams.

Infact if I get a regular, play x stopwatch matches, I do that mission in compmode aswell.

(SnakekillerX) #11

I really dislike the comp missions as well. While everyone has brought up good points for pros and cons of this mission type… I think to ensure people playing comp are in it to win, it needs to be WIN a comp match… Though I still don’t like the idea of having comp daily missions as is.

Perhaps comp should have its own extra missions? Again, they should be revolved around actually winning them though, to make sure everyone is actually playing for real and trying their best.

(Whoisthis) #12

I would really be more impressed with the competitive “mission” if it ever actually counted. I was asked to win a competitive match and after the first time it didn’t count, and after the second it didn’t either…delete.

Joined my 1st comp game, 2 members on my team afk saying that they need 1 game of comp, not a win, just play 1 game. GG

Yeah that’d be true IF IT WAS a different gamemode. Its just stopwatch, nothing new. I hate stopwatch alot as it is. I don’t play comp when there’s rampant hackers in comp and waste my time.

(Sinee) #15

I got one earlier today. I’m almost exclusively a pub player and I’m not really interested in comp. Too stressful to me.

(Badger_Commander) #16

I had one yesterday and it was a Win 1 Competitive match so I was trying but was getting super instant murdered as is often the case in competitive, it turned out that at least 3 of the 5 members of the other team were cheating and we still held the final objective on terminal

Sadly we couldn’t take any objectives in our turn so the cheaters still won and with the previous attempt having a teammate AFK and quickly leading to dirty spawn camping followed by 2 v 5, so I just abandoned the mission.
The problem isn’t the missions it’s competitive mode.

(SnakekillerX) #17

3 our of 5 people were cheating in one game and on the same team?? That seems pretty unlikely. I’ve got over 200 hours in this game now and I just came across like… the 4th person I’ve seen cheating in this game so far.

I think some people just take land slide losing as “the other team must have been cheating”.

(LITTERB0X) #18

The only reason a player should join a competitive match is because he is looking to play competitively. The competitive scene gains nothing by bogging down matches with players half-assing it, or otherwise just going through the motions to get paid. Baiting players into competitive matches with missions is a mistake as far as I’m concerned. Period.

That said, the competitive player base isn’t small because nobody knows how to find it. It’s small because nobody wants to be there on account of the hackers.

(Jurmabones) #19

I dislike the competitive missions for a few reasons.

  1. It encourages people who have no desire to play comp to do so.
  2. It makes people feel like they’re being forced to play comp if they want all their potential credits.
  3. The only reason anyone should ever play comp is because they want to win, not because they get some credits for it.

Personally I play comp and think adding comp missions was a rotten idea. Yeah it’s nice when I get bonus credits for something I do anyways, but most people don’t play competitive, so for most of the community it truly is lame and a kick in the shin to get competitive missions.

(Dirmagnos) #20

They should remove competitive missions from main game and add some kind of sub-mission system purely for competitive. Something that would differ from pub missions, more specific and challenging.
So that every1 would get something, without forcefeeding players modes/missions that they dont wannt to play. Each its own.
