With the WtD update SD introduced FF (Friendly fire) into matchmaking.
I would like to see what you guys actually think about it since it seemed like a cool idea at start but after playing 3 comp matches it is, IMO, a bad idea.
Competitive FF
I’d like to see a couple FF pub servers to warm people up to the idea. Because we have been too long without FF in the gen pop, they may not have the trigger discipline or movement discipline built up to NOT EFFING STEP IN FRONT OF A GUN, and might need a remedial fps course
I think introducing it on glorified pubs, a.k.a matchmaking, is giving people chance to meet this mechanic with less of a “barrier”, showing on how DB should be played and is mostly balanced around. Abilities that get called spammy and OP in public setting, like sticky bombs from first mentioned and airstrikes from second, start behaving very, very differently when this simple mechanic is introduced. There needs to be much more tought in their use and more communication overall.
It also opens much more strategy and tactics even when playing with randoms. Sure, you need to trust a little more on them to understand how game works on the core, but once entering matchmaking I think DB’s old teaser trailer saying “This game is not gonna hold your hand, it’s more likely to kick your teeth out” starts to be the way to go. Watch there you tread, watch where others tread, call out your abilities, think at least 5-10 seconds ahead. Not much asked since good players do this already.
Peeps learn over time. Those who don’t, tend to quit by themselves or get kicked out. We’ve had this change for that, 2 days now? Even if played 48 hours with FF on I highly doubt theres still much data to say complete yay or nay to it yet. Initial impressions, sure. Mine is this is definitely good change into right direction after 4 games, three with team of 3-5 and one while soloing.
Also how bloody cool it is to finally jam my friend’s face with highvelocity lead projectiles while sitting in spawn waiting for “that guy” to find F6 or time to run out
And in match too when they’re low HP and I can’t be arsed to waste my healing ability on them but instead treat them first with tough iron fist and then zap their useless ragdolls into life.
I haven’t played with it yet to validate this, but I feel like the pace of the game is going to make pugging comp that much harder now - the game is built to be fast, but FF seems to be something that pulls everything back and forces slower, methodical team play. I guess we’ll see what the more serious players make of it.
My gut feeling is that I feel like FF from abilities only would be better.
MM should play exactly like league competitions, including different rules than pubs. This supposed to be the key mode to attract players interested in competition.
It’s bs. People running in front of you while you are shooting an enemy and they die. And then they even blame you. Terrible change, i doubt i’ll play much on competitive.
A heads up would have been nice before I nuked my entire team with a skyhammer.
Friendly fire has become a nuisance for me in DB because it leaves alot of room in for trolling.
My suggestion is to keep friendly fire on, but your teammates cannot die from bullets because I’m getting tired of my teammates shooting me to death.
I’ve been in several matches in which player pick the merc spark and kill me so they can revive me with full health instead of throwing me med packs. Not cool.

The whole “kill and then revive” tactic is actually very effective. Small medpacks are sh*t at healing anyways.
But that’s what all the cool kids do! That way she can save the medpacks for herself and you get 100% full HP anyway.

I never said it wasn’t effective, just a nuisance and if I’m not mistaken it adds a death in your KDR.

I think being dead for two seconds is a good trade-off for a full health bar.

This here is the exact reason we shouldn’t have KDR visible in the first place, if makes people think that before effectiveness. It’s much better tactic specifically in situation where teammate has like 1hp and you’d have to spend multitude of packs to buff em up. Heck, I do that even with Sawbonez to save my godlike heal packs for more tense situation.
I don’t have a 5 person team thus I don’t play MM, so I don’t care.
@BlackFro
Sparks Healthpacks heal for 35HP without the potent pack perk. With it it’s probably 45hp.
She can carry a max of 4 packs and it takes like 20 seconds to regenerate one. ONE! No way in hell is any decent sparks player not gonna just kill and revive you.

Or the said player just use a real medic instead and throws a healthpack or activates a pulse or put down a station.

Or said player wants to play with hands down the best reviver around (and arguably one of the most OP characters at the current moment in competitive setting). Or said player uses large hp pack/pulse/station medic and has them on cooldown or sees it’s best to save said cooldown now, but still wants to buff you to full health.
Shame on him wanting to get you up as efficent as possible right?
