Compact Closeness of Teammate Spawns [Map Design]

(ImageOmega) #1

The few games I’ve been able to enjoy I have noticed a HUGE difference in the gameplay that spawn waves makes. Overall with the improved spawn wave times gameplay is much much more enjoyable.

One thing I’ve noticed (depends on map) is that there are some maps and spawn points where your teammates can spawn really far from each other albeit in the same general area.

London Bridge is a great example of this, especially as defenders spawning in the garage. Some people spawn deep in the garage, some spawn close to the stairs exit, and others spawn close to the street exit. This often leads to people hitting the exit that is closest to them and thus splitting up teammates.

As a specific example with LB, I watched myself spawn in the garage with two other teammates. One went street exit and the other went stairs. However, I spawned so far behind both of them that I had no hope in catching up to either one.

I think it’d be easier for mappers to assess and see this.

I actually don’t mind this too much, although would be interested to know the reason why.

Good point.

Speaking of how teammates spawn, is there a recorded bug for co-located players at the start of the game? I’ve never noticed it in normal respawn, but I’ve seen it a number of times during the countdown before the start. It happened with only 3 or 4 players in my team, so I can’t imagine it’s due to an insufficient number of spawn points…

Probably need a little bit more logic in the respawn code to get a bit of grouping while avoiding co-location.

In case this needed translation because I didn’t understand at first myself; He means that when you spawn (in warm-up) there are a number of players spawning on top of each other in the same spawn point.

Why would it need translation? :o

Is “co-located” too fancy a word

probably because it’s a word used mostly about data centers and with a different meaning
or dealing with communication satellites

I’ve spawned in other players before myself, but it was only in full games. I think there must be a random spawn generator or something. In ETQW there was consistent spawns at two specific areas, which might be what’s happening in DB also- just the specific places players spawn in those areas is random.

I’m sure the spawn distribution is random, but it’s so easy to keep track of which spots have been picked already, there’s no excuse for it…:frowning:
