Comp mode waiting time

(Smooth) #21

Solo queueing has not been affected at all and Party sizes of 2-3 players won’t see much difference either. So if you want a quick match, give that a go.

If you want to play matches as a Cobalt-level Party of 5, I suggest that for the time being you enter tournaments and use the Private Match functionality and organise games with other teams.

We’re no longer going to allow lower/average-skill players to be matchmade into games with a high-skilled team of 5 just to be ‘stomped’ on. It’s not fun for them and it’s not much of a test for the Party of 5.

Edit: As I said in my previous posts, we’re working towards improving Competitive as a whole, but in the mean time we do need to make it a less hostile place for people who try to play without a high-skilled 5-player pre-made.

Ok so MM is dead for me then. Being mixed with noobs that leave after 3 deaths is not the kind of enjoyment Id expect from it.

May I ask you to enable crate drops in the private matches and go over the dropping algo so its linked to the playtime to avoid abuse? I assume its a flat percentage at the end of a round currently. A normalized droprate over all game modes would be appreciated.
You currently run a farm event afterall.

MM is pretty dead already

(Glottis-3D) #24

it was not dead before the update. i played from time to time, and always had games, some of which were balanced

(FireWorks) #25

Never waited 20mins for a match, 7mins was extremely high for every time of the day on EU. Usually way less and youd even find decent matches from time to time…

(Glottis-3D) #26

exactly same here

(Szakalot) #27

it wasnt completely dead but it was definitely dying. It relied on the constant stream of clueless players who didnt know whatsup (premades allowed only)

(spookify) #28

Its been pretty dead for a while. But I would que up with 1 or 2 other people and do a duo or 3 man group and see the quality of matches you get.

[QUOTE=Smooth;540593]Indeed, the biggest problem right now is that there’s simply not enough people playing it.

The current matchmaking does now has hard limits on skill differences, based on party size, which does mean that larger teams will have a longer time searching. The maximum allowed skill difference (from the averaged skill of the party) for each Party size is listed below:

[ul]
[li]Solo: All Ranks[/li][li]Party of 2: ~11 Ranks up or down[/li][li]Party of 3: ~6 Ranks up or down[/li][li]Party of 4: ~4 Ranks up or down[/li][li]Party of 5: ~2 Ranks up or down[/li][/ul]
Please note: Unranked players are typically around Sliver 1 or Gold 5

The matchmaker will still prioritise players of closer rank, but over 5 minutes the search will expand to include players up to the maximums listed here.

The reason we have a maximum here is because as Party Size increases, the team-balancer has less power to make things even. When it’s a Party of 5, the team-balancer can’t do anything at all, so it has to match with people of much closer skill.

if I read that correctly there is no “penalty” for queing several ppl together only a restriction on who you can face or is it just omitted? go add :stuck_out_tongue:
(a penalty, as in you get a temporary increase in your elo when matchmaking depending on the size of the party.)

No that doesn’t exist, yet. Once we’ve gathered enough data to see how much party size does impact win/loss it might be something we could introduce. Right now though it would be a total stab in the dark.

I think we’re more likely to introduce separate 5-player queues before that kind of artificial offset though, as in reality the benefit of being in a pre-made would vary too much from one group to the next.

(fubar) #31

I broke MM, it crashed with a “Match making failed” popup once I bypassed 59 minutes 59 seconds in queue. :frowning:

Looking at the difference distribution to see how many team skill points cover 10% from the mean, add this to the ideal team rating when searching for solo groups. Similar for one pair plus three solos etc.

[SUP]*[/SUP]presumably this difference may vary with the level of the teams.

Sunday afternoon, EU:

32mins with 5ppl. No match
12mins with 3ppl. No match
12mins with 2ppl. No match

A full hour of waiting simulator.

(FireWorks) #34

and then I wanted to play pub…

Every single EU server for stopwatch and for execution mode is full. So I assume the comp mode servers are full too…

Anybody able to call the right people in time?

(Glottis-3D) #35

changes made it impossible, very sad =(

(Mustang) #36

So before people were moaning that games were found too fast and they’d rather wait longer or get told no suitable games were available, now that it does what they asked for they’re still moaning?

(FireWorks) #37

Read again. Please.

We dont get told that there is not match. We just wait with the only feedback of an endless timer. And the issue at hand yesterday seems a different one:

There were no servers. There were also no servers for Execution mode and there were also no servers for Stopwatch mode left to play on. They were all full.

May I ask you to keep it quiet instead of going to do troll posts?

(Mustang) #38

No trolling intended, public and matchmaking servers aren’t in the same pool so it doesn’t follow that because one is full the other is also, okay so there isn’t a timeout feature yet (or maybe it’s after an hour, as fubar discovered?), but at least it doesn’t instigate unbalanced matches anymore.

(FireWorks) #39

Excuse me, I jumped to conclusions. Let me try again:

There were no free SW servers for the EU. There were also no more free servers for Execution.
The waiting times for comp mode were beyond good and evil during the highest peak player count since a long time.
I assume it would be fair to check if the lack of servers also applied to comp mode and act accordingly: Get more while people like to play the game.

(spookify) #40

I tried to Duo que with a friend and still waited 15 minutes and gave up. The player base in Ranked MM must really be down :frowning:

I will say SD is well aware of what is needed on Ranked MM and just need to get to it like everything else.

I think once these changes are in that they whip Ranks start over, aggressively market it and give out some epic rewards for the new test.

And this is me saying this! I really dont want my rank to be whipped!
