Hey all, recently I have been seeing a lot of people arguing in behalf of community servers. They give various reasons why they want it and others say why they don’t. I’m not at all trying to take shots at Splash Damage or Nexon, I’m just curious to find out how many people actually want community servers.
Community Servers?
Fixed that for you, v44 ^^
And yes, it’s a must have as seen from multiple titles. Expands the lifespan of the game greatly, gives the feel of actual community in-game, funnels different skill levels almost on it’s on, has potential for good revenue, gives community more chance to affect positively to the game,…
There might be challenges (what would I know) in order to set such system in place, but in the end of the day it seems only worth it.
Doesn’t really matter. Nexon already stated they won’t give the community an power over servers.
I am for and against community-servers at the same time.

Haha, ok I’ll fix that up! Yeah I agree completely with you, I’m just wondering what everyone’s elses opinion is. That’s all!

ok, good to know! I was just wondering everyones opinions
Curious of where this has been said? As this seems something very harmful for title’s future (given it’s supposed target audience from developer side) to state in definite manner.
If true, this sounds like something to start a petition for even. Very sad if publisher is locked in such mindset, hindering developer’s efforts and in the end of the day just honestly pissing on their own cereal too in the long run.
Community servers is the largest factor in actually creating a sense of community. A very good thread on this very topic: http://forums.dirtybomb.nexon.net/discussion/21461/lack-of-community-servers-lack-of-community-feel-getting-bored-of-the-game-sooner/p1

@Faraleth I assume Fara can tell more about it. (Or say I’m totally wrong)

Ok I’m kinda sad now. Starting this thread I just wanted know if everybody had the same or similar pint of view as me with the whole community servers thing. Right now I’m pretty sad, in my opinion dirty bomb NEEDS community servers to thrive! It doesn’t have to happen now, but to be honest as @bontsa said its a bit sad and very narrow view that splash damage have so early into a games development

We can’t know what happens behind the scene, if the statement spawns from SD or Nexon or both. After all, since they’re co-operating, even if they disagree on some subject, they have to compromise and after that stand behind that decision together. Least I hope this is how stuff is going and will go in future, nothing good from supposedly co-operating sides starting blame each other.
Don’t be sad for starting a thread though. More constructive discussion there is of subject, more chances there are it will be discussed in virtual and/or physical tables where representatives from both developer and publisher gather. Hence more chances of seeing change.

Sorry didn’t mean to target Splash Damage specifically! I’m sure (as u stated) many things go on behind the scenes. I just meant that I’d like to think that possibly later on they change their point of view (Nexon or splash damage or even both) will hopefully decide on adding community servers.
I wouldn’t know why a developer or publisher wouldn’t want something that could extends the longevity. Possibly as Dirty bomb is very new, and still in beta, the may want to keep these features back until they feel they’ve put the game in a good enough state.
As servers would be rented, they may want to fix up things like server side lag and optimisation before they monotise them. Otherwise there would be a backlash at the subpar performance of servers.
But that’s just a guess at a possible reason. I honestly have no idea what would stop then outside of wanting to improve the game first.

Probably, only time will tell…
@Faraleth I do know you’re quite busy being magnificently awe-inspiring and all that, but I’d really care to see where the reference behind this statement @Jostabeere took the effort to dig up, might have been said.
As well known fact, forum search function is utterly bork’d so I can use that as an excuse… can blame that instead of my laziness… simply cannot find it conveniently. Where should I look for?

Thanks @Necabo , but I was looking for the source Faraleth took this from. Pardon for inconvenience, I have (bad) tendency of editing my posts right after posting so you might’ve missed it.
I would assume the actual source comes from Nexon itself. Fara tends to ask them directly I believe.
the only thing stated for sure is there will be no community OWNED servers, ie: you can’t run game on your own server or home computer, they have never stated there will be no community RUN servers. They are definitely considering all ways to implement them
That’s a good point and I take it as that and start gathering the Dragon Balls. Just in case.
