Community Question: What multiplayer game modes do you want to see?

Community, RAD Soldiers comes with one multiplayer game mode out of the box – Capture and Hold – where you have to hold the Objective Area for 5 turns in order to win. As we expand RAD Soldiers, we’re looking into additional games modes to mix things up a little. This seems like the perfect thing to get your input on, so here’s this week’s Community Question:

What game mode(s) would you like to see in RAD Soldiers multiplayer?

To keep things as open-ended as possible, there’s no poll this week. Feel free to be as crazy/elaborate/concise as you like with your ideas. We look forward to your replies!

Escort

Each side has a single drone that they need to escort up to the rocket in order to extract data from the crash site.

The drone must reach the crash site and stay 1 square away from the rocket itself to start extracting. Extraction takes 1 turn to complete.

After data has been extracted, you must return the drone back to the start in order to win.

You can also win, by destroying the enemy drone or taking out their entire team.

The drone is heavily armored with 300 HP and has 5 energy pips. It can travel 5 blocks max per a turn. It can be repaired by engineers.

When you are next to the rocket, push the extract special ability button in order to start extracting. Extraction will take 3 energy pips.

The drone is also equipped with a machine gun that deals a consistent 30 damage up to 5 squares, unless the enemy is behind cover than it will deal less damage. This is for situations when it comes down to a drone vs drone battle, so it can defend itself. Using the machine gun will cost 3 energy pips.

2 vs 2, but not just taking turns on the same team, but each person directing particular squad members

maybe some attack/defense mode would be fun, a smaller team spawned in and defending the scoring area vs a bigger (more squadpoints) team attacking.

and having 3 or 4 small teams going up against each other should be a lot of fun as well, this would add a whole new level of strategy, diplomacy and intrigue :smiley: (especially with a chat option) this would probably have to be a “free” mode without any money or exp to earn, to disencourage ppl using multiple accounts/devices

1vs1
commander vs commander

survival - you pick 1 char and play with that one for as many games as this char survives , the HP is not restored.

Leveling UP ! - you start with commander and have to kill the other commander NEW ROUND - you get one random soldiers and have to kill 2 foes. the same HP is given further - you get another random soldiers and fight vs 3 foes and so on - you end with all you have left at 7foes . if you lost a soldier you have to compete with 1 less soldier.

campaign - same as above just that you don’t fight +1 always. you get a new soldiers from time to time and as better you were in the previous matches as easier will the next ones be

real-time mode
you have 1 / 2 minutes to send your turn - the enemy is staying and waiting for you - fast answers here - made for expert players

Map with more than 1 stage you can go to the parking garage downstairs and have 2 /3 different stages on one map.

co-op
you actually play WITH your opponent vs a AI. the foe camps the mid (rocket ) and when he is in the center for 7 rounds he wins - you have to play WITH your online-friend and attack the enemy from 2 sides

Only1
for all game types the Extra-mode to actually allow only 1 of each characters

Something akin to speed chess would be nice.

As for other game modes, they would likely have to incorporate the same balance of play that Take and Hold does (where capturing the zone and defeating the entire enemy team are both equally likely occurrences). I have a few ideas.

One is a gametype where one team’s units randomly receives a bomb that soldier can arm at one of two points on the map (so think Counter-Strike, sans terrible). The defending team can focus on either defending the points or intercepting the enemy, while the attacking team needs to be mindful they don’t telegraph their strategy, or blunder into a defensive trap. The objective seems a bit extraneous here, and it also seems a little suspect to Light dominance, so I guess I’ll give that one some more thought.

This is just a random thing but what if there was a target which had to be pushed (e.g. with a water cannon into a certain square and the player who does it wins. Bot sure uif it will work but it’s just a though :slight_smile:

Big Team Battle, large squad point matches.

Story Mode, emphasis on story.

Capture the flag

CAPTURE THE FLAG
Instead of capturing the same objective area, we have the option of capturing opponents objective area while defending our own. This would allow for more tactics of either:

  1. Eliminate all enemy opponents (middle area battle)
  2. Capture enemy stronghold area (offensive battle)
  3. Defend own stronghold (defensive battle)

Problem is that the defender will most of the time win, since they are already in position… so in the end we have both teams just waiting at their spawn and not moving for the next 100 turns.

i hear a lot of interesting ideas, and for me, this is a great game, and with the different characters, it adds an interesting dimension as it is. no need to over saturate, what is essentially a chess match. i say ne to the chat as well. keep it simple, tweek it a little, but you dont make a game, then change it.

Its always possibly to have a two stage battle like one player plays the defending stage 1st while the other attacks, and the next round the defender goes on the offense while the other defends. A draw will lead to a third round match of all out battle without any capturing objectives. Whoever gets a score of 2 wins.

Assault: Blue attacks. Red defends.

Maps are designed with area Red must hold for a set number of turns. It’s not necessarily in the center of the map. It’s where Red starts.

Blue is given more squad points than Red.
Ideally Red can spend squad points on fortifications: turrets, mines, barriers. Or a map may include fortifications.

Capture the flag, teams (2v2, as mentioned by others), plant the bomb/assault (think halo multiplayer, with an attacking and defending team), straight up death match, 32pt game (bring out the big guns!), bigger and smaller maps

Oh, and “tournament mode” and “ladder mode,” these can be automated. Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 have serviceable examples

I think if you take 1 look in the forum the most obvious and most necessary game"mode" is tournament
there are 2 threads about tournaments or something close to that and they have about 8000 views and like 200 replies ?
the game IS awesome but it still needs a competition system or something close to that.

and it is nice if you win things in the tournament that are rare, expensive or exclusive.
e.g. exclusive charakter skins, skins for the commander, Rad Bux ( you can give Rad Bux to everyone who compedes, more the higher you climb)
Boosts (chose between coin and exp) , double exp for all tournament games, expensive outfits (like deconterminated),
rare stuff for the first place of bigger tournaemtns e.g. a 2nd commander - totally different to the starting ones (but you can use only 1 per game) [or just a skin that has a totally different model]…

I personally don’t like rankings but it would be nice to add it for the majority of forum-members as OPTION (you can decide wether you want to join the ranking or not)
