ETQWpro:

  1. Improved weapon balance (incl. reduced spread)
  2. Improved rulesets incl. mapscripts, vehicle rules, weapon restrictions, spec/SW improvements, simplified custom map support, etc
  3. Improved UI incl. scope, screenshots handling, demo recording improvements and fixed autorecord, timers, improved class selecting commands, improved fireteams, pause and hitsounds, etc.

It also saved the comp and custom side of this game.

    [li]Reduced spread - to reward good aim even more and keep the skill ceiling high[/li]

[li]Faster sprint - to reduce the average map length and keep it fast-paced[/li]

[li]Balancing - vehicle and weapon restrictions, map adjustments (forward spawn on Salvage, removing the last objective of Volcano), spawn times, etc.[/li][/ul]

I only played ETQWPro, so

  1. ETQW Promod

[li]disbaled proficiency and smaller hitboxes
[/li][li]possibility to disable certain visual stuff, like muzzle stuff, sky box etc
[/li][li]set certain restrictions to improve the overall gameplay

I think the most important aspect of any pro-mod is the ability to let the community decide what they want to do with the game by giving various options that weren’t originally there in order to balance the game as they see fit. The only downside is if the community go too far in their ‘balancing’ and we end up with too tight of restrictions due to the banning of certain elements rather than trying to keep them in by modifying them, such as mortar in ET or the fliers in ET:QW, it’s too easy to ban rather than adjust.

What do you think has been the most impactful pro mod for a game you’ve played competitively?

I’m strongly hesitating between CoD4 and ETQW, they are both excellent on promod, but since CoD4 is enjoyable to play on vanilla while vanilla from Quake is terrible I would say that ETQW’s promod is the best.

[B]From that pro mod, what were the 3 most impactful changes to the vanilla experience?[/B]
  • Faster : Reloading/Shooting while sprinting were allowed, faster movement, faster objectives countdowns,
  • Possibility of restrictions : locking/unlocking teams, speclock/unlock, class and weapon restrictions according to the choosen mod.
  • Less weapon spread.
