I beleve the biggest problem for DLC (on XBox anyway) is Sony and Microsoft themselves, charging hefty prices for you to add content to XBL for peeps to download etc so if the demand is there then the content MAY come, I guess if you have the big bucks behind you like the MW franchise then you can take a risk on peeps paying for maps they had with your first game

(tokamak) #22

No matter how you put it, between two equal teams, a group of identical clones has an advantage over a team that gives more information away.

What if we could organize ourselves (community + splash damage + bethesda softworks) in order to release community maps into the consoles with free download?

I doubt the community can create 3 perfect and balanced maps per year… but 1 or 2 is very likely to happen. I just don’t know what’s the process of bringing a map from PC to the other consoles.
How hard it is?

Microsoft and sony would still want a huge chunk of cash for you to offer it

Be interesting if it were to happen but not sure it will though.

Are any of the mappers that frequent these forums interesting in Brink at all? Be interesting to see the likes of Firefly, Diego, Mordenkainen, []V[] and so make something in Brink.

(LyndonL) #26

Not an issue apparently…

(BrigandSk(A)) #27

LyndonL awesome find ! ! !

Team Meat writes on its official blog.

Will Splash Damage use the “reactor” level for this “Teh Internets” process?

so Xbox and Ps3 players enjoy also community creations . . .

(H0RSE) #28

Thank you Tokomak for that wonderful demonstration of what an opinion is…

Besides, what “information” is being hidden? There are class identifiers on characters, so even if you all look the same, you can still tell who is what class. The only thing it may hide, is the identity of the player behind the character, which really amounts to nothing - and I think nameplates show above enemies anyway.

(BrigandSk(A)) #29

“Reactor’s Campaign” could be the name just like “Teh Internets” thingy for SMB, it’s sort of opened campaign with opened slots to be filled with new maps for free, considered as update.

Interesting concept.

while I was informing myself about these independent developers, I found their original game, Meat Boy, the tips are funny and informative.

HELP!

(tokamak) #30

I thought the whole gameplay aspect of customisation is recognising players which makes the entire game muc more personal, especially if you figure out each player’s set-up and playstyle.

(BrigandSk(A)) #31

Sorry, but you don’t realize how fast a player can change his set-up and how fast they have to adapt to their new set-up and class.

The only thing you got to be aware is the path you are controlling that leads to the objective you are protecting/defending and know or be informed once who ever was covering your back dies or not.

I don’t understand why people keep saying I’m going to play this class with that weapon using that archetype… when none of those do actually matter!!!

The important decisions a players has to do are only the body type and where they want be to become important for their team, at certain time and place, for a certain direct teammate or territory/path that helps everyone in the team to achieve a possible chance to pull off the victory out of that round.

Did that sound complicated?

Simplified:

Only Worry about: Body type and The place (where you want be to help the team).

Because players are supposed to play dynamically, adapting them selves to the different classes and for each different stage of the map.

(INF3RN0) #32

This is true. My custom character will have my Social Security number and home phone tatooed on his forehead…

(tokamak) #33

That doesn’t really matter. Once you get to know players you can start to anticipate their actions and that’s where the real mind-game starts.

My case still rests, a team which doesn’t allow the opponent identify their players have an advantage over those who play with an open hand.

(Nikto) #34

sigh pay no heed to what he says, he seems too thickheaded to understand.
we don’t want it limited, we just don’t want a hardcore option, since it encourages camping apart from not fitting Brink at all.

he sees this as “limiting the options” and “limiting the gamingexperience”.
i suppose saying an instakill watergun shouldn’t be in is also limiting it, so it should be in after all?

don’t take offense because i’m being so aggressive, i’ve had problems making it clear to him on the bethsoft forums already, doubt if he understood yet.

perhaps with splash damage manages to create a sort of SuperMeatBoy’s “Teh Internets” empty section/campaign, we can achieve getting few great community custom maps.

Got to check their level designs.

I wish Splash Damage does leave the door cracked open just like Team Meat’s thingy.

(Nail) #36

afaik, TMS is limited to 32KB not really enough for anything usable, for super meat and its’ 8 bit add ons it’s ok, but for anything else, maybe a text file or a hat

(BrigandSk(A)) #37

you know as far as I wanted to know, sad TMS is limited to certain space, it did not cross my mind… Thanks for highlighting me that issue.

So there’s no way Brink console players can taste community maps without paying DLC for something that should be free?

even if it was just 3 maps . . .

(light_sh4v0r) #38

Unless they break up the maps into a gazillion 32kb pieces

(FireFly) #39

Nope, I stopped mapping Last July, sorry

(Spaiker) #40

I hope they’ll include the community maps stuff. That ETQW didn’t have it, was possible the reason of ETQW’s death. You will stretch the game’s life expectancy. But I hope SD isn’t like Dice. Once they got our cash, it’s fine for them. Let’s just leave them with the crappy game we made. Suck to be a gamer then

I think it’s rather fun, when you are a good and skilled player, people will see that in your character and think: ‘Oh *****’ and try to run away instead of shooting at you :stroggbanana: :D.
