Commentary About Future of Brink

(morguen87) #21

The reason nobody plays isn’t because “they don’t get it” and not that it’s “too hard,” it’s because 9/10 people have a better game they can play instead. Brink could be a free downloadable title at this point and after the initial surge, still nobody would be playing it cause it plays just like a free beta should and they have finished games they can play instead.

Oh I forgot, it’s not just a beta, you can dress up your characters like dolls…guess that makes it a full fledged game guys, forgive me.
It’s too bad really, because in its current state is how the game should have been released. It’s quite outstanding, but there are nights where I’m seeing only 400 active players. Hell, tonight only had 1350 peak. With that few players, the game will be dead by end of summer unless they find a way to sell more copies or bring people back.
That’s really bad for an AAA game that just came out. I don’t know why these days all companies doing MULTIPLAYER games keep wasting money/time/ressources on making a worthless singleplayer that no real player unless some console noobs will care about.

What is unacceptable is taking months for a simple balance patch. Also WTF with Splash Damage being a bunch of snobs by never replying in the forum?! The only time I see someone take 5 sec of his life to give sign of life here was when I did my thread with the horrible font that catched a lot of attention (-_-) if our money alone isn’t enough and that we need fireworks to get a word from them then there’s a serious problem.

Exactly.

Decent review, but gj completely ignoring all the problems with brink.

Bang on there mate. So damn annoying that when I was trying to report problems on release people were saying it was just because I didn’t get the game :S They charged for a beta on release and have released no updates to make it a full release yet. Sad to see that some are still sticking up for this turd of a game as it’s giving SD the wrong impression.

Is there a lobby patch in yet?

(neg0ne) #26

i like the review.
lots of truth in it.

still…the game is not “finished”…ok, but i like it.

(xTriXxy) #27

brink is everything else, but not a PC game. Maybe good console game. I dont know, im pc player… but from worldwide sales brink sold over 600 000 console copies, and only 60 000 pc copies. (correct me if im wrong with numbers)

for me, brink never existed. :frowning: im very very sad.

*edit
i think that PC players are only garbage for developers. dont tell me illegal downloads killed pc game market. it was developers delevoping garbage games who are killing pc gaming.

(neg0ne) #28

@trixxy:
right. to me, most of the bad things about brink come from it being a console game. argee on that.

but still i have fun playing it…and thats it for me.
and i still have some faith in SD, that they do something for their pc-fanbase.

Its definitely NOT a console game. No lobbies for consoles yet no dedicated servers either. P2P with no lobby. Mind boggling.

This game wasn’t developed well for anything.

(Nexusdog) #31

I got five minutes into it and that was enough.

What irked me from the start was the use of the movie footage while discussing the game, then cutting to ingame footage. The vids were diametrically different; one was cinematic, the other was a standard FPS view.

The movie wanted to be the Matrix; bullet time, fancy moves while picking up weapons, sliding & actions to close doors, etc. It’s all very dramatic, but it doesn’t happen in game, sorry guys.

I like BRINK a lot, but please, don’t oversell something it’s not.

(morguen87) #32

I’m tired of people telling me I don’t like the game because I like games like CoD. I haven’t played any CoD game since the original…and even then I only liked Search and Destroy, which is as close to Brink as you can get out of CoD.

I don’t like Brink because it is a bad game. Is that simple enough for the fanboys to wrap their heads around?

I’m tired of people telling me that I don’t get it, that it’s a niche game. People are going to like to any bad game, just set them down in front of sparkly, flashing lights and they’re good. That doesn’t mean it’s a niche game. It means it’s a bad game and there always will still be a few people who won’t give up on a bad game.

I don’t want a CoD clone, I don’t want a Halo clone, I don’t want whatever other game title you can throw at me as some kind of insult…I just want a good game.

So save your elitist attitude because you think “you get Brink”, a fact is a fact. And fact is, Brink feels like a beta through and through. Maybe if they released this 1 year before release the real Brink would be a decent game.
What the **** did they show at E3 anyway?

WATCH THESE:
Brink: Behind The Scenes Part One
Brink: Behind The Scenes Part Two
You cannot tell me that doesn’t make your blood boil.
WE GOT CONNED!

I’m not a big fan of them either, but they’re called cinematic trailers for a reason…

(Artvarg) #34

I’m not here to flame, but the review really sucks. My first thought was: Did they get money from SD? They didn’t mention any of the problems that killed Brink. Can’t say anything about the PC version but the XBox verision ist the most f***ed up AAA game I ever saw. They don’t say anything about not finding full matches at all. They didn’t say anything about it looking outright ugly, though you can actually see the low-res graphics at the end of the video. They are talking about the game as if it had a single player, which it doesn’t. And worst: They compare it with other AAA-Games, which you just can’t because of the lacking content.
Brink would have been an awesome as a downloadable title, but it just can’t compare to any other major shooter. I switched to Crysis 2 where I at least can find full matches. It has a pretty neat S.M.A.R.T.-system to, Crytek just don’t make such a fuss of it.
I will give Brink another try once the DLC is out. Right now Crysis 2 is an excelent replacement… and it has single player :stroggbanana:

morguen87 is mad imo. If you don´t like the game go play something else and don´t waiste your time posting in this foruns .

I´m also critic towards brink in some aspects, but i do enjoy it and i´m not a fanboy neither the majority of us in this foruns.

(morguen87) #36

I want to like Brink. I want the DLC to make it better. I’ve been looking forward to the release of Brink more than any other game in recent memory. It’s not that it didn’t live up to my “high expectations,” it didn’t live up to anything, quite honestly. So yeah, I’m jaded. I want a reason to play it, but unless I toss my other games, there’s no reason.

edit: also, regarding the DLC, I’m somewhat confused…the DLC is supposed to come out within 10 days, correct? Splash Damage has made no effort to promote this whatsoever.

So what exactly is the DLC going to do? Just the people that read this forum that know when it’s out are going to try it?

How about the thousands upon thousands that simply gave up on Brink because of its shoddy release? How are they going to know anything about a DLC when Splash Damage won’t even give us teasers? How about trying to figure out why they won’t give VIDEOS OR EVEN SCREEN SHOTS OR ANY KIND OF TEASERS FOR A FREE DLC OF ALL THINGS…HOW ABOUT WHY THEY WON’T GIVE US ANYTHING FOR A DLC THAT’S SUPPOSED TO COME OUT WITHIN 10 DAYS?

Incompetence

that is why we have Brink in its current state afterall

Rather have SD spending their “incompetence” on developing the actual DLC while letting Bethesda do the promoting, so go whine at the publisher for the lack of it.

(morguen87) #38

Are you telling me SD can post updates about what’s planned for the DLC but not post anything regarding the status of said updates?
SD’s whole silent approach is only killing the game. Many, many of the thousands of people who bought brink only to give up on it within a week won’t even know about this DLC

Don’t blame this on the publisher, it’s a FREE DLC. They don’t give two ****s about releasing free content…unless it looks so horrible that they don’t want to show anything.

Lol, Brink is a AAA title right? When have you have seen a AAA title plan on releasing a DLC within 10 days without showing anything?

That sure does inspire confidence.

(Floris) #39

You wouldn’t be crying towards SD if they did charge for the DLC? Madness!

(morguen87) #40

No, I’m saying the publisher should have no reason to keep wraps on the DLC if it’s free. Everyone who has the game/knows about it is going to get it anyway.

Thus, not showing anything about the DLC is ominous.

Nice try on twisting my words though
