Commending the Skyhammer Obsidian

It’s just badass. SD’s fell short with these Obsidian Operatives a few times, but they hit it out of the park with this one. Other than the Fletcher one, this is the only other Obsidian Operative that I immediately bought because it’s that sick. Not only that, but you made it Skyhammer’s best loadout, so I don’t feel like I’m only playing it for the sake of playing with the skin (though I do have the same loadout in Alienware, but Alienware ain’t got those cool ass gloves).
You have my applause.

Honestly I’m not a huge fan of it. It doesn’t really fit the DB artstyle well enough. Some of the other Obsidians are the same, but this one feels way more out of place than any of the others. Basically the initial phoenix obsidian design all over again
That said, I don’t necessarily think the skin is bad, although I’m not a fan of geordi laforge style visors, especially since this one makes him seem even more bald than he already was somehow.
It’s definitely better than the turtle obsidian, but I wish we got another Phantom, that one is just awesome.

I love the new Skyhammer Obsidian too, it’s got me playing Skyhammer haha! Nice one SD!

I like the skyhammer obsidian… from the neck down.

That head is an atrocity, i can’t believe they removed his characteristic stubble. He just doesn’t look like skyhammer anymore to me.

That summarizes it for me. It’s a nice skin, but again SD is trying to go too hard for the Obsidians to look cool while the original design of the mercs has always been functionality over style (except for Javelin…). It’s sad because they had done a great job of keeping that purposeful feeling with the Founders Obsidian and the Arty one, but it seems like their design team has completely fell off that wagon…

@STARRYSOCK @Djiesse I dunno, I feel like the new Obsidians are kinda supposed to be outside of DB’s artstyle. I think they’re meant to standout to make them feel more special, rather than just feeling a reskin or minor remodel. I love the Fletcher Obsidian, but not much of it looks that different from the regular skin, other than the glasses and facemask. I mostly only bought it because I’m a Fletcher main, if I’m honest.
The new Skyhammer, however, looks well outside of Dirty Bomb’s artstyle and I think it’s on purpose. Nobody else looks like they shoved their hand into a junkyard pile and then taped whatever they grabbed to their face, and nobody else looks this cyberpunky. But if people are willing to spend 15 bucks on it, they might as well make it stand out.
However, that doesn’t mean it’s unfair to dislike it because of it being outside of DB’s artstyle, and I totally get why someone would. The game isn’t even out yet, but it still can’t figure out what it wants to look like before it gets released.
I’ll always like it, because I think it looks cool, but if you don’t, that’s cool.
Also, I gotta say it…
SD STOP GIVING MERCS WHO ALREADY HAVE REMODELS NEW OBSIDIANS.

The problem with this skin is it has the same outline than Stocker. In party I always think it’s a Stocker and not a Skyhammer. That’s problematic. Otherwise, it just looks “grey”.

Can you re-release Proxy obsidians cards please? I don’t understand why not all Obsidians are in the Shop, even if they were made for an event. Just change the card’s logo.

I actually really dislike the skin. The colors are meh, and it looks like it came out of Lawbreakers or Titanfall rather than DB. The only Obsidian skins I’ve liked so far have been Phantom’s (own, barely play Phantom) and the OLD Skyhammer and Proxy obsidians (don’t own).

You ever make a super cool looking Sparks meets purple sombra skin though and I’m buying it immediately.

I think with Obsidians we always try to do a couple of things:

  1. Make them distinct from existing skins
  2. Make them cool as hell

Sometimes we do one better than the other, but it’s cool for us to see debate about the skins! Some people love the Skyhammer Obs, some don’t, some people love Fletcher’s while others don’t - that’s good!

We have a couple more Obs coming as well - one of them is my absolute favourite out of every single one we have ever done. I love it so much.

Tbh Skyhaggis wouldve been one of my favorites if it wasn’t for the things on his face.

P.S Please give other mercs obsidian love before Proxy gets her 50th unique skin.

I’d prefer a schoolgirl outfit with lose socks. And the orbital laser could change into a tentacle monster that tears everyone apart within the laser circle. Please honor the Japanese traditions!

I’m not a fan and won’t be buying it. It suffers the same problem with a lot of the obsidians in that there is way too much going on and it’s all dark, grimy colors. I don’t like that at all. I’m 100% down for re-skins of the mercs themselves beyond color but this style of skin is so bland and indistinct imo.

SD, PLEASE don’t screw up the Fragger obsidian. I will actually cry. Please don’t hurt my boy.

Guess i’m one of the few that loves this skin :smiley:
It looks like a cyber commando with exoskeleton body armor (wish there were some more on legs) who have been sent by a mega-corporation and prepared as hell to get right into the streets firefights of a future London at the edge of an apocalypse. And I already imagine a Terminator-like hud for playing with him to go along his glasses xD
And the most important thing : the loadout is the only one worth using imo :slight_smile: At least, that’s the one I ever love to use. I would buy the other Obsidian if we could change their loadout.

Not a fan of it myself and I’d take my Founders skin over it anyday since it’s the same loadout, but well I had 24k RAD’s sitting with nothing else to spend them on so I bought it.

I’d take the Founders over it anyday too. The orange skull is just too damn slick. And the weapon camo is way better too.
Seriously, what’s up with these slightly upgraded iron skins SD?
