Command posts

(Cankor) #1

OK, so what happens when you hack a command post? Does it just go offline for the enemy, or does it then become yours? In other words, do you capture an enemy held command post by hacking it? And what about a neutral command post, do you capture it the same way?

Do Operatives harden command posts or do Engineers?

(JFarrell) #2

I think it’s somewhere along Engineers upgrading the Command Posts and Operatives hacking and firewalling them.

(Humate) #3

It becomes yours - I think they actually showed it one of the dev diary vids.

So that’s the capture mechanic, you have to be an operative? I’m relating this to the command post = the forward spawn in ETQW + the comand post-ammo/health rack in W:ET.

So you need an operative to cap your forward spawn?

(X-Frame) #5

I think the Engineer caps the command posts, but the Operative only firewalls it …

GS AU: Tell us about the command post system and what you hope it will do for player choice.

RH: A command post is kind of like a home base, where anyone on your team can swap out weapons, resupply themselves, or change class when the team needs someone to get an objective done. Each team starts the game with its own command post, so both teams have access to this base functionality.

There are additional command posts out on the battlefield, and when a team captures one of these, it gets all the normal perks mentioned above, but it also gets really nice teamwide bonuses that can turn the tide of battle.

So, let’s say your team is trying really hard to blow through a barricade to access a later part of the level, but the defenders are completely dominating the area and you can’t punch through. You might decide to step away from that frontline battle and sneak around behind enemy lines as an operative in disguise. When you do, you stumble across the enemy’s command post that is giving every single one of your enemies more powerful weapons. When no one’s looking, you capture that command post for your team, and now the tables have turned! Now your guys have the superior firepower, and the defenders have to retreat from that barricade they were defending.

And there’s even more to command posts. If your team has captured one, two of the classes (engineer and operative) have abilities (if they’ve leveled up and bought them) allowing them to modify it even further. An engineer can upgrade the command post so that it gives even stronger benefits to your whole team, and an operative can “firewall” it, so that it becomes much harder for enemies to steal it back.

So there’s a lot of high-level strategy involved with command posts on the battlefield, and smart teams will need to know when to try to control them and when to focus on other objectives.

Rahdo gives an example of the operative stealing it, but he doesnt say that its the only class that can. So you may as well send SD a PM to confirm imo!

lol, or start a thread!

I knew Engies could upgrade them somehow and Operatives could firewall them so they are harder to hack (or capture I guess). But I was sort of assuming you cap them like ETQW. Then I started wondering, well, what’s this hacking of the command post about?

(Mustang) #8

Maybe it’s like this
Anyone can capture, then if your team has captured it your operatives can but up a firewall
Then before the other team can capture it their operatives have to hack it first
Once hacked anyone from the other team can capture

(LyndonL) #9

I’d say the firewall only slows down the capture, not disallows it.

(Bezzy) #10

Almost there, guys!

Anyone can capture. Once captured, Engies and Operatives can upgrade with their bought perks (Upgrade and Firewall respectively). Anyone on the other team can “counter capture”. Counter-capturing a firewalled command post takes longer than usual.

“Hack” sort of doesn’t mean anything in this context - bit of a red herring. It’s just being used here as a different term for capturing.

(Mad Hatter) #11

That’s the answer I was hoping for. Yay. Thanks Bezzy!

(Murderous Pie) #12

What will upgrading command posts do? give you more ammo when you go to them? what else do they do other than changing classes and spawning? am i missing something here?

(trigg3r) #13

(Murderous Pie) #14

firewalling and upgrading are comepletely different, at least i think

(DarkangelUK) #15

Don’t know if they work the same in Brink, but captured CP’s in W:ET gave a slightly quicker spawn time. Maybe it works the same, and upgrades lessen that time a smidgen more.

(Mad Hatter) #16

I think I remember hearing somewhere that the bonuses for captured Command Posts are random. Could be a small health buff, could be an ability bar buff, etc.

And Engineers can boost the boost, whatever the boost boosts.

(X-Frame) #17

And Command Posts are additional spawn points?

(Humate) #18

No, these additional CPs are there to gain an advantage in buffs.
The CP you spawn at however, cannot be capped.

(Mad Hatter) #19

Not just for the buffs. You can also change classes and weapons at them, as well as restock your ammo.

(X-Frame) #20

So everyone spawns back in home base for the whole game? Or does completing objectives as an Attacker or losing as a Defender open up new areas of the map with different spawn points (i.e. BFBC2)?
