Combination Abilities - Merc Teamwork -Ability Buffs

I am very bad about starting new thread and just randomly spiting out crap off the top of my head into a random thread that may or may not have anything to do with that thread.

Below is what I think would be cool in this game! Possible even add teamwork… Its a sort of ability swap or using a mercs ability with another mercs ability to create a super or different ability. This would create teamwork and different class combination play. The Ideas are endless!

Let me know what you think? Also I would like to state that I do not want to go to crazy with abilities because I still want this to be a shooter but for example using proxys mine to create a shield I would be totally for because the draw back is zero mobility…

What about my Idea of Half Abilities and Same Class Boosting or swapping?

  • Example Stoker and Sky can throw their Sticks at Half Cool down and achieve a Fragger Nade Style blast and feel.
  • Example Saw can Medic Pack Phoenix for either a lower Cool Down or Something Cooler. You could also look at if the other way that saw also gets something for Medic Packing a Phoenix…
  • Example A Stoker Ammo Setup and a Auro Heal Setup can be stacked or combines to create a Turret? Or a giant Proxy mine if an enemy gets close to it. So getting heal or ammo as a freindly is both amazing any the enemy could suicide aka komakazie it and possible take you out because of Friendly fire… Or the station because highly explosive because of the unstable energy connection an if the enemy detroys it the blast is 5x larger and FF could take you out… However The HP of the combined Station is much greater…
  • Bush and Fletcher can be combined into a Nader style AOE launcher instead of a simple turret…
  • Get this— A fragger nade and a THunder nade can be thrown in the same area and explode each other… What could happen… A Ice wall can for blocking a hall way like in the first xmen movie where bobby makes an ice wall between striker and wolverine. Idea 2 - Both nades combined could create a void of something… Idea 3 both nades combine and make a floating gas cloud that can fill a hall.
  • General Idea - Proxy can place mines on any surface!!!
  • Rhino combined with Stoker the mini gun will not over heat if stoker feeds him ammo…
  • Giving ammo to Thunder or Fragger resets their cool down
  • Proxy Mines can be set and armed - Mean while a friendly player can come and modify the mine with their tool to create a shield. Player is immobile but gets additional 100HP shield
  • whats the blue guys name that we havent played yet? He’s got that shield? You could combine him with Bush to create a shield for the turret.
  • Turret should be able to be placed on all surfaces!!!
  • Players Drop Gun when killed! Ability to pick up other players guns!!! Use remaining ammo!
  • Phantom becomes invisible in Stokers fire… And doesn’t take FF damage because of the reflective heat shield he wears.
  • Spark can also Shoot Friendly players to give them HP as well at Packs
  • Faster Weapon Switching!
  • Better wall jumping and collision on second Jump
  • Better and Smoother player animation while running especially legs and feet toughing the ground.

Very mixed bag of ideas here mate.

Some are not bad though…
However near the end you go on just saying “better” and thats not really a useful word.

I suppose the one I like the most is the Proxy being able to mine any surface like the good old Golden Eye proximity mines. could be a little OP though to require people to look everywhere before walking into a room. I think there is room for a Merc with trip mines in future though that could work in almost the same way.

Some of these are very strict and I would be more for trying them if they where a little less so.
Example would be Phantom not taking friendly fire from fire.
If this was to be a thing I would just make it an outright passive where simply Phantom does not take Fire Damage at all…
However, again I think it could be a little OP, Specially when technically Stoker should be the biggest counter after detection to him.

Some stuff is just crazy…
The Healing Station + Ammo Station for instance…
By all means I would entertain the idea of stacking them makes a super ammo + healing station (basically 20% larger range and 200% HP). But a turret… naaa…

Need to try and focus these ideas a little more mate.
Nice effort though.

It is easy to see where you are kinda going with some of them.
However, you really need to consider both power and spam.
Right now I think everything is more a question of refining rather than adding a million new combos really.

EDIT: Also try and think of it in a 5v5 matchmaking sense… I feel it will be very rare to see both a Fletcher and a Bushwhacker or a Fragger and Thunder on the same team in that circumstance.

You know when a fat kid is on a treadmill trying to get a candy bar and he just cant reach it and passes out from exhaustion? Now imagine me typing and getting tired and just putting “better” because I have no steam left hahaha!

True you would never see a fragger and a thunder in a 5v5 BUT what if their combined power/ability could clear a room or do something that it might, just might be worth trying.

This is my whole point with these combination abilities. I for sure do NOT want to make them spammy in anyway! What I do want and use 5v5 as an example is to not always pick the best merc as you have stated an another thread. Maybe a less popular, less spammy, less deadly or less effective merc could buff or create a new ability that is effective. This would add another whole team play dynamic to the game because you arent just picking SAW, Aura, Buch, Fragger and Stoker… Flip flop one or two out with another merc but you have a big/common 5 most of the time.

I think in 5v5 this combination would make abilities stick out even more. Especially something simple like giving ammo or HP to reduce cooldowns… I actually do not like the cooldowns because I feel the should restock at an ammo station or ammo box.

This Idea would combine a TF2 and an LOL…When I think of LOL there are merc’s that can straight up counter other mercs… There are also combination of mercs that can be combined to smash everything or combined to Heal and kill like BOT lane in LOL.

Most of my ideas for Combination abilities are slow and stationary so the spam takes time to set up and is stationary.

For example:
Bush can lay down a turret and “a Merc” (whomever) can build or combine into the Turret and make it a stationary MG where-ever Bush sets it down… Yes is powerful but you could also 4 dink the dude on the MG and kill him… So Yeah OP not OP…

I still like the stationary Proxy bubble shield. Especially if you are in a corner or protecting a plant…

Kara’s fire from the sky could combined with something that make the beam turn into AOE at the ground… Almost like stoker AOE ground fire…

Think about combining Stoker and Aura in another way if you do not like it making a turret… Once combined they loss the ability to give ammo and heal BUT… SOMETHING… Think it could do something cool… It could also take time to setup, build and eventually deploy the ability…

How about combining two abilities to make a mobile command post that can spawn one person ever or every few seconds or something… Something like this could be cool for map progression… OR forward spawn cap areas can be capped faster or something…

Again combinations would take time so they are not spam-able plus the two people would lose there abilities until cooldown is complete and once they use the new ability the combined ability will destroy or something…

I have always like the Idea of a Spark combined with Val…
Example: Val gives up Heart beat and Auro give up the heal station. As long as Val is in the heal station ora he can give teammates HP by shooting them. A headshot is 150 HP and body is 70 like it is now… Get this… If he moves out of the ora he is back to dealing normal damage… Could you imagine a pro being so good he can RLRL in and out of this ora healing and dishing out damage? EPIC! Again he is basically stationery so placement and teamwork is key! This would be totally pro because if he is would of the ora or the aura replaces the heal station and Val shoots his teammate in the head LOL FF kill haha!!

How about a not ability idea but rather a teamwork idea:
A SAW and Thunder have a big distance to run… The Saw is faster the Thunder but what if the SAW “pushes” the thunder… Not like ET puch but like in american football or Rugby were people push people in the back to run faster or gain more ground…

In the weeks following the latest patch there have been a lot of people suggesting quite huge changes.

Its not that any idea is a bad idea (in theory) its just when ever you make a post like this you need to look at all the ideas you suggest at the same time and imagine if they where all implemented in the same patch how the game would feel. The problem is right now we are already having a rather spam filled feeling when playing the game and many peoples ideas recently would likely just add to that feeling.

I know I myself have been guilty of this in the past.
I think right now most talk should be focused on refining what we currently have rather then “sweeping” additions or changes.

Also, try and imagine how this would work on any potential future game modes.
How each of these would feel to play against and not just play with.
Think about the likely hood of something every being used and think of the abuse potential.
Remember that communicating what happening is vital to reduce frustration.

Would you be happy shooting against a rhino that is not moving, being shot for 150+ hp ever 1second?
Would you like to throw a perfect molotov onto a proxy defusing but the shield blocks it?
Would you like Kira to be able to block the only entrance onto an objective with fire for how ever many seconds?
Would you like back rangers to setup a MG nest behind your spawn?
Would you like to be FF killed by a noob Vas that steps out of the Aura in pub?
Would you like a noob on your team to turn your turret into a MG nest when you placed it perfectly?

I would actually like this and it would give Rhino the ability to possible get to a spot that he normally can not get to… Rhino in the open even with 200hp is a dead duck. This actually adds more skill then a rhino sitting on an auro heal station

Would you like to throw a perfect molotov onto a proxy defusing but the shield blocks it? This would be epic! The Shield would not block the Molotov but rather eat 100 Damage of it before the sheild is broke… This might give Proxy 0.5 more seconds to defuse. If the molotov is a direct hit the sheild will auto break and proxy will be exposed however she would have survived the first hit.

Would you like Kira to be able to block the only entrance onto an objective with fire for how ever many seconds? Every few seconds pfft haha… In a 5v5 Stoker could throw his fire and block the hall, yes… Then he is on cooldown… Then Kira combined with another mercs ability could then also block that hall for a few seconds… in a 30 seconds span you have 3 mercs that now have zero abilities and you have 5 mercs on the other side pushing together through that hall… Stuff like this happened all the time in ET and RTCW and its what made SW great… Even in CS with flash bangs and nades to hold a hall way for a few seconds.

Would you like back rangers to setup a MG nest behind your spawn? YES! Why not! There is a MG behind the spawn in White Chapel right now on first stage. I love to sneak all the way around and get up the church and MG people coming out of spawn. I can only get 1 and maybe two kills before everyone turns around and kills me…

Would you like to be FF killed by a noob Val that steps out of the Aura in pub? I would be pissed but maybe he saved my life 1 second ago… FF not being on in pubs and especially OBJ mode is hurting the game…

Would you like a noob on your team to turn your turret into a MG nest when you placed it perfectly? Again possible pissed but in 5v5 it would work perfect plus in pubs if the engy that originally sets the turret gets the kill count that might detour the noob from combining with the turret.

To be honest I’m struggling to see what the idea is here, thought I almost had it, then most of the “examples” don’t relate at all.

Could you explain the idea with an actual example or two without all the extra noise?

The Idea would be to combine two mercs and their abilities to create a new ability.

Or give the Merc and Option to modify a mercs ability to create another ability.

  • IE - Upgrading Proxys mine so that it creates a stationary shield around you.

So basically the same synergy and combo thing that Inferno and other have been talking about.

Yea, I like the idea and would be interested in seeing how it feels in-game.

Although I think you need to be a bit more dynamic and instantaneous with the resulting effects, otherwise you get the same thing as Brink where everyone buffs everyone else everytime and it doesn’t become synergy and tactic play, but just a chore.

Something like shooting an arrow though fire catches it on fire and adds DoTs to the target, this has momentary tactical relevance.

I was personally looking a a combination of two individual mercs that compliment each other… This would create merc diversity also…
