colored lights and lightstyles

(fraco) #1

Hello,

I have a few colored lights (_color in the light entity) around my map. Not using any of the lightstyles.

Compiler tells me that some of my surfaces reached the limit of max number of lightstyles (4, can’t remember exact warning text).

Is this because of the colored lights? What is the effect of it hitting the limit, will that surface be weirdly lit or what (don’t see any obvious problems).

The compiler also creates some external lightmaps.

I don’t really understand why colored lights need to go in separate external lightmaps. I can see why lightstyles would need that.

Should I worry about this warning? Is there anyway to avoid the colored lights being treated as lightstyles?

thnx

You probably have some light entities with a “style” key or a “targetname” key. Lights with a targetname key are dealt with as automatic switchable styles, ala Q2.

Delete those keys, and your map won’t have any style info, and won’t generate any external lightmaps.

oh yes,

as always you’re right Ydnar, I had some trouble with spotlights using wrong entities and ended up adding a targetname to the light instead of a target

waidaminit, are you saying i can use your lightstyles to make switchable lights, even though sof2 multiplayer normally won’t support them? coool… gonna try that

thnx a lot
