Coin distribution in multiplayer.

This came up elsewhere in a thread where it was off topic so I thought I’d post this separately. It will also make it easier to find for anyone who is curious in the future.

I think I’ve worked out how the coin distribution works. There is a formula and I think it works off of the same logic that dictates how many ticks you get in offline Challenge missions. I’m pretty sure it works like this:

80% / 20% split (equivalent to Gold tick) You win and all your toons survive.
75% / 25% split (equivalent to Silver tick) You win, lose at least one toon but your team health is still >50%.
66% / 33% split (equivalent to Bronze tick) You win but don’t meet the criteria for Silver or Gold.

It is also possible to have a 50% / 50% split if you wipe each other out on the same turn; basically you kill the last enemy toon but then your last toon(s) die to a DoT.

Thats good work. Just missing one thing. How is the number of coins earned determined? For example, there might be 1800 coins or 1600 coins to be distributed. Or is the same number of coins given each game?

I am still trying to work that out. It seems to have a lot to do with the game length (rather than what actually happens in the game) but it seems like there may be some other variables to it that I haven’t managed to define yet.

Gives me an excuse to play more games…

For the sake of completion: If I remember correctly, take and hold victory gives you

75% / 25% split

Agree?

Tbh I am not sure about T&H yet; I don’t know whether it is a flat percentage (as per your post) or whether the Bronze / Silver / Gold criteria still apply. I don’t see as many T&H outcomes. Win or lose, most of my games seem to end in Elimination!

That looks right…

On to opinionating: I wish the lose’rs take was more responsive to putting up a good fight. Winning strikes me as a major reward in itself - especially in hard fought battles. I had a recent win where my opponent and I traded toons over several turns. The extra 100 or so coins my opponent got for the close victory didn’t seem like enough. There was another where I wiped out my opponent without much damage, but he came within a turn of a T&H victory. Maybe I’m remembering it wrong, but I don’t think that near-win increased his coins.

I also wonder how many people who lose regularly stop playing because of the (relatively) meager coin earnings. OTOH, I guess it’s some motivation to drop some cash on the game. And maybe beginners are matched up against each other often enough that hitting the occasional 30+ level player who walks off with 4/5ths of the pot just whets their appetites.

I play random games quite a bit - I’m seeing far fewer low-level players. Maybe because they get discouraged by the coin payout and quit. Though there are at least two other explanations: Enough people have been playing awhile that beginners make up a smaller proportion of the total than they used to. And the matching may try to put similar-level players together. Oh… and anecdote != data.

In my opinion coin distribution is fine as it is - you can still get up to one third even if you lose. That’s what makes people finish their games even if they’re losing. As opposed to any kind of league. If there’s something you can loose after a game (even if it’s only ranks) you will immediately have some people stalling. Does anyone on the forum remember uniwar?

I may need to clarify - I could have put it better: When I say “I wish the loser’s take was more responsive to putting up a good fight.” I mean I’d like to see the loser in such a situation get more coins, not less if they don’t give a “good fight.”
