One unknown issue I find disconcerting is the microtransaction part of the game. We still haven’t seen any mock ups at the very least of exactly what we’ll be dealing with, only community speculation right from the start.

I think that’s an area that cannot be implemented after the alpha stage without a dramatic backlash.

If you guys have developed enough of it on the side and simply delayed putting it in our hands to avoid both forum grief (which I’d expect from some no matter how well designed it is), or to avoid derailing mechanic testing/discussion, that’s fair enough. But it would be helpful if you gave us a run down of what is currently missing from what we see… what is done (alpha wise) and waiting to be implemented in the first beta client, and what will still be missing?

If there are any major aspects like the shop that will be missing, could you also give us a heads up on some of the “why’s” so as to pre-empt any speculation and/or rage-rants that have a high likelihood of erupting in the forums once the beta hits?

If the plan is to have a long length closed beta period I can see the game being ready for closed beta. It is in no shape ready for open beta where people will really judge it because the expectation of an open beta is pretty much release.

Even journalists and review sites see open beta as pretty much free game and I wouldn’t expect leniency on their reviews for having bugs or a poor UI. Right now the client is fairly shabby I gotta be honest. Maybe it is just an experience for me, but I don’t even get half the framerate I get in game while on the server browser and dealing with the barracks. Hopefully you guys go back to the old login/client method.

If “scrim organization” is not built into the game it forces everyone to go outside the game to find scrims. This pretty much limits the amount of teams available to scrim to those who have been around for many years. There is little to no chance new players/teams are going to even know IRC exists, much less go out of their way to find a scrim. I’d personally like to see some new blood in Xt. If we are going to be scrimming the same 4 teams we played in ETQW/Wolf/Brink, why not make ET2 and make those teams truly happy?
The whole idea behind reinventing the wheel with Xt was to attract new players. Xt is doing itself no favors in that department by forcing new players to search out scrims in arcane corners of the internet.
And don’t anyone mention forums for finding scrim! I think there was a grand total of 4 scrims successfully organized via forum post in the history of ETQW… and they were 12v12 spam fest. Point being, forums are a horrible place to find scrims.

I don’t think anyone can argue that a built in match making/scrim finder service would be a positive for Xt. I just don’t see ANY negative to it besides more work for SD/Nexon. The fact that other games can’t see to do it properly means nothing. Those game can’t do A LOT properly!
Along with a REALLY SOLID anti cheat system, A proper built in ladder/scrim system is ANOTHER HUGE OPPORTUNITY for SD/Nexon! Do it right and set some standards for everyone to follow rather than the other way around…

PAX was deemed “Very playable for an alpha”. Needless to say many of the reviewers are expecting a lot more by OBT, so I surely hope it is a long phase to get a wider range of feedback from a more varied player base.

(OwNLY) #126

Of course TB thinks the players feel “bullet spongy”.
He is playing ultra slow, crouch and ADS. Dunno why, maybe because it looks like a modern military shooter.
For this speed of gameplay, the TTK is too high.

I already posted the thread about Speed vs. TTK.

The game doesn´t seem like it knows what i wants to be.

(trickykungfu) #127

The game was always very playable for an alpha but nothing more…

The decision to start the CB on october 1st was made yesterday and then you announce it, thats ok. But why did Destiny already know months ago, that the Beta starts in october?

Anyway, now its useless to discuss this.

Do we have to do anything regarding the migration to nexon? I made an account already there, do you need the acc data so that I get access to the beta?

(RasteRayzeR) #129
Another account argh!

I’m looking forward to the announcement on the public forums, got my popcorn ready.
Already called them fresh meat, they are all on the debate : “Has COD been renamed ??? duuuuh” …

Still, can we apply now for an account at Nexon and then our stuff gets transfered or should we wait ?

PC gamers aren’t console gamers, they know how to internet. This whole “it’s absolutely necessary” attitude is nonsense. Would it be nice to have? Sure! And I agree I don’t see any negatives, I just don’t like when ‘nice to have’ features start getting placed near the top of the importance list and their worth magnified for no reason. I can’t remember if this is 100% correct but I liked the way Black Ops did things, a dedicated server list but you could also go through matchmaking. The cynic in me as well is thinking that any sort of matchmaking system for individuals is going to take a while to implement, if that’s the case then group/clan matchmaking is going to take even longer… the other cynic in me doesn’t think SD believe it to be that important to put it near the top either.

You’d be surprised.

I’ve had people at my LANs who don’t know how to install drivers or even connect to IRC. I’ve evevn had people who don’t know how to connect LAN cables/mice/keyboards/monitors!

Must have been a LAN for mentally retarded people XD

They’re called PG Gamers… parental guidance recommended.

I don’t think you realize how old school things like irc and organizing scrims are these days lol. Most people expect a convenient one click button, not that it’s a bad thing for this in particular.

Match making is important in the greater scheme of the game imo, especially if we want to see skill gaps increase. Some of us can handle challenging circumstances and have the will power to practice/learn, but the majority of gamers like an ego boost at least 2/3 of the time otherwise they start saying things like “this game sucks” and go back to CoD out of sheer frustration.

(RasteRayzeR) #135

An advanced match making system would be a nice feature with both pub and comp games organization made easy. But as said Darkangel, it’s not a priority right now.

And people who cannot connect their pc components have no excuse nowadays, even a lego is harder. I wonder how they could buy a pc at all if they can’t put the round shape in the round hole (parental advisory required xD), and the square shape in the square hole. It’s that simple …

I usually put the usb plug in wrong

I hope that a match making system closes the gap between pub and comp and makes it easier for new teams to enter the comp games.

Plugging cables in is ‘old school’? Wow…

That’s definitely something to worry about, but what I don’t understand is, that it seems, that some consider it a personal attempt to not being told the exact date of XT’s CB release. It’s not like XT would make an 180°turn during October. So it wouldn’t matter if we are talking about the 1st, the 2nd, or the 27th; it’s risky anyways to go public with the current build and that probably wouldn’t change with the next one either.

XT definitely needs to get tightened up, speed up* and some significant ingame rewards during the matches; you know, little achievement-boosts that makes those elongated matches more fun, regardless if it’s obvious, that your team might not win. The game needs some success-/reward-shots for the individual player.

It’s like this proverbial “steak” I’ve mentioned in a different thread; the best steak is nothing without a juicy sauce and some nice trimmings; well except if you happen to be a hardcore purist. Wich most people are probably not.

*(gameplay wise, not character speed)

Usb inserted correctly on third attempt xD

We are working towards a “built in ladder/tournament system” these things just takes time
