Closed Beta Update

(DarkangelUK) #81

Excuse my ignorance because I’m not fluent on this, but are there comp fps games out there that have scrim organisation built in? I thought most scrims were organised via forums or chat rooms or direct association by just knowing people in from other clans.

(attack) #82

cod bo2 i know that because some of my team play this game.
but it works awful sometimes you get americans…

(FireWater) #83

How do you operationally define “highly competitive fps”

(attack) #84

well as much as it hurts but cod get the most viewers of all shooters on twitch .(about 20 k at big turnaments)
quake 1 k .
for me this is highly competitive

(acutepuppy) #85

Traditionally, but part of modernizing the game is bringing in a “competitive” option. Things like mattchmade games that are populated for the session with penalties for leaving, set match format, record keeping, etc… and simple server selection with a quick-join option.

Ideally it’d be something like 5v5 matchmaking, and something like 14-slot open servers.

(trickykungfu) #86

oh nexon wants to see money very quick. thats great. thats what i expected…

(FireWater) #87

That doesn’t answer my question, it just tells me how many viewers each game gets. Is CoD less competitive because it gets more viewers?

(BAMFana) #88

Yes. Dota 2, League of Legends, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive are the most prominent examples. Having matchmaking in a game doesn’t preclude players from using IRC or other ways to organize matches instead, though, which may for a variety of reasons be preferable for some teams.

(FireWater) #89

Firefall was in development for 5 years and they just shut down pvp because it wasn’t relevant.

Point is when is enough time enough? Of course Nexxon wants to see a return on its investment this isn’t charity.

Sometimes I wonder where people exist in the world where games are magically created the first time around and don’t require any evil publisher money to do so.

(.Chris.) #90

Seems people don’t understand what a beta is just like they didn’t understand what an alpha was…

(prophett) #91

Not really designed for scrims, but CSGO’s matchmaking system is how we normally find scrims for that particular game.

(Kl3ppy) #92

I love how SD communicates with us. First they say, beta starts this october, now its official that the beta starts october 1st. Why do you (SD) use this vague language instead of being precise?

(Anti) #93

Because the last time we told you we didn’t know the exact date?

We are still making the game, we are still planning releases. That means often we haven’t decided on stuff, then we do decide on stuff, then we tell you.

(Kl3ppy) #94

C’mon Anti, between yesterday and today is not that much time.

(OwNLY) #95

That means you don´t even know what you want to do with the gameplay?

Without good planning most things end in a failure…

(Protekt1) #96

Is the start date of CB public knowledge yet? In other words, can we share this information?

@ownly Of course they have plans but when they are tentative and not set in stone is it cautionary to not give the impression that they are set in stone. Planning something with room for change is pretty common I suspect even in the world of game development. In fact, if they didn’t have room for change that could prove to be a bigger disaster in terms of planning.

(Mustang) #97

Yes.

(prophett) #98

The game isn’t fun for me in it’s current state.

There is that 1 in 20 ‘magical’ round that is fun, but other than that I usually lose interest after 2-3 rounds. It needs a lot of work to capture my attention long term.

(Kendle) #99

The misunderstanding is strong in this thread

(OwNLY) #100

But you need to have a structure ready. I learned a bit about project planning, etc.
You need to know what you want to make before you start.
Of course you need to plan in room for error, change if something does not work out.

It would just be great to see the plan, just to know what is coming towards me.

Now i have to base assumptions on what i am seeing right now, and i really don´t like what i am seeing.
Today they say they are on a good way to start closed beta next month.

I liked last update, but the in the months before that it got worse every patch.
There is still a ton of work in the gameplay mechanics and balance to do until i would play this game regularly.
