Frankly though, the bulk of your email is more for Silvanoshi than me. How and when we release information is a negotiated process, and we’ve been evolving this process considerably since Silvanoshi joined us.

Actually the majority of what you have said in the previous few post (this is not supposed to sound like a dig by the way) is…

Apart from telling us Trainyard will be given a C4 objective and the capture objectives are going to be removed.
You have not really given up any real info…
I am sure we all appreciate how much you seem to be listening to peoples feedback though!

Silvanoshi is without a doubt great at his job.
The downside of having a great community manager right now is that he has a small tendency to hype up his communication of new features. I think I speak for most of us when I say his humour and interaction makes this forum a better place. However if I have to be honest since he started doing the update notes and announcements I have been feeling more and more disappointed with what we get out the other end >.<

On a lighter note do you guys at SD call each other by your Handles at Work?

Like hey Anti you got that Blaa Blaa done yet?

Do you have practical guidelines for your handle when hired at SD that it has to be appropriate? Like some amazing software developer applies but everyone in game knows him as BiGboNerDancer would that fly? I will use the example above: Hey Boner you got that Blaa Blaa done yet? :smiley:

Side Side Note and True Story:

I flew down to Florida last Novemeber to visit some member of TeamRAS from ET for the first time. Little weird playing down and meeting gamers you have never meet and only talked to on TS and stuff. But I have been playing with them for almost 10 years and was drunk and order plane tickets and told them to pick me up at the airport… When I first meet them it was not weird at all…

Here’s the funny part:
We were walking around a Food,Beer and Music fest in down town Orlando and I was a cross the way from one of the players. He wanted to get my attention and see what food or beer was at my station. We were about 15 yard apart in a vary packed area full of a diverse crowd when he yells “SPOOK”… HEY Spook!!! People turned around and looked at him like huh is this 6’5" black man calling a white man spook? HEY Spook! he says again what the got over there!? I was like shhhh haha! I went over to him and said probably not a good idea to be yell spook across this crowd… You know what he said? But thats your name! I was like buhaaa!!! I then notified him if sort of a racial thingy if you look at it in a different context…

SIDE SIDE SIDE note:I did NOT pick my name because it was a racial word… I pick spook originally because I am spooky and Backrage and pop out and scare people… I then had to switch to spookify because of the number of spook’s in ET copying my name and even my color scheme. the ify came from the disturbed album and song stupify…

As far as hyping new features goes, it’d be great to hear if you feel that’s the case for any features other than those of the Unlock and Loadout release, I know we have our difference of opinions there ;).

With regards to the patch notes. I do try to make some of the points a little easier to understand, but haven’t really had to remove much in the way of info to do that so far. Quite the opposite, I’ll seek additional details/clarifications where required. If there are any additional elements that you’d like to see with the notes, you can always ask. I can’t promise that we can incorporate them, but there’s no harm in asking.

Well Spookify…it’s funny that you should mention that. I don’t know if you’ve seen, but one of Splash Damage’s founder’s handles is Fluffy_gIMp…so yeah, unless your nickname is REALLY out there…there’s generally not an issue :P.

And my word man, that is probably longest origin story I’ve seen for a nickname outside of MMO/Fantasty titles, good stuff!

Listen up Operators!

Having willingly fought for you for many months, murmurings from the Mercs have been bubbling away under the surface for some time now. Flittering from squad to squad, talk of change has been rife. We did our best to “accidentally overhear” what they were chatting about, but damn, even Skyhammer can whisper with the best of them! The few discernible words that did slip out were “…noobs…” “…he doesn’t know what he’s doing…” and “…he ****ing kept bouncing my grenades back at me!!!”.

Actually I feel the Loadout Card (11th) update and the last update (26th) where handled very well on your part.
I likely do not appreciate what goes on inside the Nexon forums enough to be fair because when I do read some of the peoples posts over there I feel like stabbing my eyes out with a blunt pencil so I can avoid reading more in future lol…

I suppose what I am getting at in simple terms is expectations…
When you put out a complete picture with high quality image assets, thought out humour and corporate style messaging you build up expectations that simply due to the stage of development, you are not able to match.

“I always expect the worse in order to avoid disappointment.”
I honestly do try my best to avoid the hype train but you are just too good at your job dude…
This is why I keep questioning the NDA lol. You make it sound after every big post you have made that the game is finished! lol

While a ton of work had gone into that update, I do agree that it was laid on a tad think there. Fair point.

RE: Merc removal, that comes under the Unlock and Loadout release for me as it was preparatory work for that update.

When it comes to the artwork, you’ll still be seeing more of that for the larger releases, although as we move our communication to have a greater presence outside of internal forms, it’ll begin to make a bit more sense.

Pixel, I WILL PM YOU REPEATEDLY UNTIL YOU COME HERE AND DECK ME, ONCE THE NDA IS LIFTED!!! XD Until then, there’s no need to get your hopes up about it being removed.

There may be a slightly confusing period during which we start to talk more about DB in full view of the public. The NDA is still in effect during this time. Most of you will probably have seen the first DB Dev Blog post going live on www.SplashDamage.com. We’ll be continuing to make posts about the game there. Anyone who’s wondering what you can discuss publicly in relation to that, here’s the simple way to think about it: You can mention anything that you would know from reading that post alone. Any additional info that you’re familiar with from being a tester, must remain in the CB forum.

I’m a bit late to the party on this one…been busy…but, tbh I think the COD shotgun is a near perfect example of a shotgun. You’re screwed at range with it, but close up in a room you can cause a massive amount of problems and damned near wipe a team out on your own.

In DB, if I choose Proxy it’s because i’m looking for speed of movement so I can get a plant in. That’s it really, one reason, to get plants in. I don’t choose her because I want to pwn the enemy although I realise others do. She needs tweaking to make her more of an engineer and less of a combat class

When others do, I get frustrated because I pretty much get one shot killed every time. When I choose her, I get the plant in, set myself up to defend it while the alarm bells go off, 2 or 3 enemy turn up, and i’m dead in an instant and the plant is defused. I get maybe one shot or two if i’m lucky and if both don’t hit headshots it’s game over and they’re defusing. The rate of fire is basically too low to make close-quarters viable unless you’re with a group or the opponents are distracted in some other way, but the range for massive damage is so long that when you come up against her at medium range it feels like she’s using a .50 cal.

Short version: Under-powered at close range due ROF. Over-powered at medium range and above due to excessive damage

It’s highly unlikely that we’ll be wiping with the next patch release.

We will however have to wipe at least a couple more times between now and OB as various progression tweaks and improvements come into play. Such is the nature of beta testing :).

Do you think the OB will have the ranking/tournament mode in place? When the OB hits I want my friends to instantly be addicted! Possible Start with “OB season one” test or something haha.

I just dont want them to come back and be like nothing has changed!

Basically in a nut shell more structure then just fragging and testing like we are doing now.

3 thing really annoying about playing tonight:

#1) People where running and just trying to bounce off every wall imaginable. This seems like it changed their hit boxes and also once they got into you the collision still blows… But most important the hit boxes were not there!

#2) server got so laggy they crashed

#3) I did not get XP for a super long SW match… I had something like 20k xp and it took so long to count all the ribbons it switched maps because even 1/3 of all the ribbons were counted and I didnt get any of the xp! NONE

Thats strange spooky.
Cant really say I’ve noticed that, but then I dont see a lot of players using the advanced movement mechanics.

This is worth testing and recording… I should have popped my record on last night…

I will elaborate.

This was in a Euro server on Bridge (That little Hallway to repair the RV right before the little hall with stairs.)

This person cant remember their name off hand was two classes. That AR guy with air strike that isnt arty… and a shotgun person… They also had 100 less ping then me.

They would come in to the hall and I would get 2 or 3 hs as SAW on them then head to my left their right wall and start spamming jump.

This same thing happened many times and a few different thing happened.

  1. He would jump on the wall and jump straight up and straight down losing all momentum and I could easily kill him.

  2. He would jump up and toward me which I could track but seeming bounced off the ceiling and his amimation totally glitched out and looked like he disappeared.

  3. Same as two as he jumped off the wall toward me but at closer range and all I could see what his feet and blocks of his body. While he was in the air coming at me before blocking I heard no hit sound and only saw 2 things of blood. Turned around no idea where he was and died.

Those are the specific ones I can remember but it happened 3 or 4 more times in there. Every-time he was trying to get into my body and poof disappear.

This is old but I noticed that you can not stack on people heads?

Is SD considering Push? and are more collision fixes on the way?

Also what about another 100 passes on wall jump both for the ability its self and the animation?

  • Seems pretty springy for this game…

Are Shotgun Mercs going to be slowed down any? Nerf/fix the gun and give them 100hp and slow them down… Problem solved.
