Class balance Bla Bla

(Raviolay) #1

It seems now that most posts are centering on class balance yet again, so rather then single out the medic. I am going to call out the elephant that is causing it, that class is the solider.

This class has took the plant away from the engineer just to give the class some sort of purpose. He has none, now I know SD are not going to like what I suggest as it would mean tossing out a lot of hard work.

However, if the game is not going to give any sort of compelling reason to play a class other than the equipment they carry. Removing the solider & passing on his equipment along with some re-jigging other classes equipment. In my often scoffed none-pro noob opinion would create synergy and a valid reason to play each class.

What I would propose is this:

First off all classes other than the medic loose the HoT when out of combat.
The pre-nerf healing mechanics get re-instated.
Medics start with less ammo.
The support now moves a little slower (more on that later).
All the objectives are done by the Engineer.

So what happens to the soldiers kit? & What is this re-jigging you are on about Ravio, and just how do you think this makes this fancy pants synergy shiz.

Well lest see first off all I have read about is how Cov ops are in the business of area denial. So why is it then the “support” class gets the air strike, ya know I want to stop someone dead in there tracks and shout FEAR ME MORTALS. Is a rifle or opening the heavens & raining explosive justice to smite the plebs seem more suited to the task?

In short drone strikes should be in the hands of the Cov ops IMO. His kit load out would now be this:

Sniper Rifle
Pistol
Claymore
LTD (air strike).
Sticky nade

Well whats next?
Ahh yes the good old engineer, now reprising in his/her original staring role the only thing I would change is this. I think mines suck, suck anus to be exact see that the sensor missing from the Cov ops?

Shotgun/SMG
Pistol/Machine Pistol
Pliers
Sensors/Turret
Grenade

MMMM oh yes support, now with slower movement!
Now missing his arty (sniff).

LMG
Pistol
Ammo Pack
Stun/concussion nade
Mine (I hate them boo)

Ok short on time got work

Medic stays the same only they get smoke instead of a nade.

I will leave it to your imagination to think how that would play out.

To be honest there should only be 4 classes rather then 5 and give the soldier class the sniper rifle and just rifle the covert ops altogether. Then we can get the c4 back to the engineer.

Can’t imagine this is going to happen. 5 classes, plus 2 or 3 load-outs for each one, are already done, plus more weapons we haven’t tried yet. SD have stated they’re going to make their money on this game by selling load-outs. More classes = more (distinct and therefore sell-able) load-outs.

The solution to the Solider having C4 (and giving it back to the Engie) is to beef up the Soldier’s gun, be prepared to break the concept of any class being able to kill any other class in a 1-v-1, and just accept that a lesser skilled Soldier may from time to time beat a higher skilled Medic.

How does C4 on engy or soldier change anything? It’s a simple minded look at the situation… all it does is change the primary gibbing focus to whomever has the c4 anyway. I’m all for better 1v1 balance among all the classes, but in the case of medics being able to self heal that is a flat advantage and thus they should be reliant on them for as long as self healing is viable- can’t have the best of both worlds. Atm I prefer medic over soldier myself after the last updates.

Meh, I like being the backbone of assault (meaning being a soldier). Plus SD are testing things. I’m pretty sure once the soldier gets the minigun and the grenade launcher + rocket launcher xp unlockable, there will be no more need for him to have the C4.

This will be a class to frag and cause massive explosions, which I’m fond of. It was the same in W:ET and it was fun !

(pulley) #6

SD cant do that. The game is far past your suggestions… So no use to argue about that…

I agree that 5 classes seems like too many with the current layout of abilities. The fact that C4 had to be given to Solider to make him more attractive kind of proves this. (Although I think it was a good decision)

The new soldier loadouts won’t change the current ones. They may boost the use of the soldier class overall, but the Dazzler and Conker characters could see even less use if 03 and 04 are better / cooler / more interesting to play for whatever reason.

(Jamieson) #9

If you want to make Soldiers more attractive then you they need to go down the same route as the soldier/assault in Brink, because there the flash bangs and molotovs were really powerful and actually made the class more useful and better at killing. As for the soldier having the c4 I’ve never seen it as a problem, it was fine in ETQW and wasn’t that big of a change compared to ET, I mean seriously so what the soldier has the c4 instead of the Engineer, is it THAT important?

It innately makes offense stronger than defense… so yes.
