Clan Tags in game

(R4ziel) #1

Hey guys, I have to say that I am absolutely loving this game and it is very refreshing to see a game run this well with all the stunning looking levels and awesome movement system.
This game is proper fun again, thanks SD.

Only problem I have, which is not a big problem, is that there is no clan tags in game. I read alot about Splash Damage employees coming from competitive clan environments and that they understand clans completely, yet they leave out clan tags?

I know some people will say that you can have the same “Uniform” but thats a bit stupid cause our colors are green, but that does not stop anyone making his character green and that will be confusing or not hitting the mark in terms of uniqueness. If I see a guy with complete red uniform, I will not know he is from a clan or even from which clan he is from.

I play on PC and currently I have added my tags into my steam name as a possible temporary solution but I have to change my steam name every time I play something different that has clan tags in.

Please SD, could you tell us why you left it out, or tell us if it will be added.

Thanks

Keep them in your name at all times anyway? It’s what most Tf2 clans do.

(R4ziel) #3

Yeah thats not really a solution. If I go to Black Ops the tags don’t work the same, going to GW the guild name conflicts with the steam name and looks stupid.

I don’t understand how the game can be so clan orientated and not have clan tags…

I prefer not having a separate clan tag entry, in Brink (and DOD:S which I also play in Steam) I can just SHIFT+TAB in-game to put my tag on or take it off. In COD:BO you can’t do that, you either have to have your tag on all the time, or not.

At the end of the day there are some games (played under Steam) that allow a tag to be recorded separately from name, and others that don’t, and whether it’s an issue or not depends on which of those games you play.

NOT having a clan tag facility in-game is the simplest and most consistent solution and I’d prefer it to stay that way tbh.

I understand your point Kendle and thats personal preference, but you don’t have to use the clan tag facility if you don’t want. But I can’t make use of it if it’s not there.

(Crytiqal) #6

Wasn’t it said that BRINK would be clan oriented and clantag would definitly be in? Hmm

(Apples) #7

Dont be critical crytical! pffffff

(Kendle) #8

That’s a good point, lol

The funny thing is that they punted this game as being team driven and clan orientated with them keeping an eye on competition style rules and supporting tournaments.

Which is cool cause they are keeping an eye on tournaments (BrinkTv) and it is extremely team orientated but they omit Clan Tags as an option (again not mandatory to use). I like the idea of making everyone in my clan the same color for quick reference to myself in a game where I know 4 others of them are, but for outside people there will just be alot of dumb guys who like green too much on the enemy team, not a clan that games together.

Putting in the clan tag can’t be that hard? Although I know very little about games programming. If it is really that hard or not feasible, an answer clearing that up would be wonderful and I’d go back to changing my steam name as currently.

Shameless bump…

Really, no one else want to have clan tags option in this clan orientated game? This must be the first time Ive seen so little response about clan tags… specially one that is supposed to cater for clans and skirmishes.

(Jamieson) #11

It would be nice to have it but like ET you can just put your tags in your steamname, really at the moment the addition of clan tags are low down on my priority list, I would much rather see SD concentrate on bigger issues such as Pause for compeitition and some form of balacing for certain maps in the form of spawn times perhaps.

(R4ziel) #12

Im not saying it’s more important than any of the other stuff but I don’t understand the decision to exclude that small and yet powerful feature to the game, it can’t be that hard to add!

I realize that there are much bigger things some people want, but this is important to me.

(needforWeed) #13

Just change your name ( Oldschool).

(pinksocking) #14

It saddens me that this game lacks a clan system of any kind… sure, I’d love ladders and tournaments … but even SOME clan features would be incredible!

Bah! /pouts

We just need an ingame name different from our steam name.

Something like the “ui_name” cvar from TF2.

(matsy) #16

I want colours!

(OoGaNomiX) #17

Not everyone is on steam, ps3 user and I want a clan system. Changing your name on ps3 you lose your friends list not to mention tied to an email. a clan system would be wonderful.

Implementing a clan system would drive sales and increase long-term interest in Brink.

Or probably it’s just time to grow up and stop changing the nick every day from shizzle to shizzle*master to Q.cumber to GladHeAteHer and so on?

Wouldn’t mind a clan system but it works so far.
