City Sky

(Victorianetza) #1

i am developing an urban map. I am about to finish it till september, so i dont have enough time ( i am going to the sea in August), so now i need advices from all of you. What type of sky shader should be in a urban(city ) map with a lot of buildings?! i think something like in Venice but not sure… :???: Also i think its best to be a day… So what can you (all of ya) suggest (textures are welcome  )?

In the Venice map the sky textures did not have any buildings on. This was done quite effectiverly by adding in low detail building facades to block the view and box the map in without giving a boxed in feel. I think this style looks much better then some of the maps I have seen for older style games where the mappers, limited by the game engine they have mapped for, have used a sky texture with buildings in. I rember this in a few of the eraly CS and UT maps that I played and while it might of looked acceptable back then, I think there are better alternatives now. Another good example is the Staligrad map where building facades are used to give depth to an urban environment.

i will put a secret room in one of the buildings
if my door entity works ( i get SWSetbrushmodel: null, so i can not make doors :bored:
i will try to use a prefab)

with the gamecam program i can try & shoot a video w/ the map…
