Well, I’ve been mostly lurking around the forum because all the questions I had were already answered by this extremely helpful community and Splash Damage (thank you guys, few big guys even glance at the little guys) Anyway, beta 1 was a privately public release (no advertisements), but I’m going to be a bit more vocal with this map. :slight_smile: Comments, suggestions, complaints, praises, I’ll take 'em all! Lose the RTCW and Q3 textures.

Lose the bloat (Thumb.db’s and textures already in pak0.pk3).

Double-check your sounds.

If scripts/terrain.shader is used at runtime (I don’t know), then
you alteration will be problematic.

Certainly, Iffy! I was in a bit of a rush on my last post, sorry about that. Anywho, screenies ahoy:

Allies spawn at the house, have to attack the castle in the distance:

Here’s one of my favorite rooms, the gallery, complete with model Jagdpanther:

In the facility, there’s a firing range. And those buttons work:

It’s a bit hard to see, but the radar parts are in the room on the right, protected by an electric floor the Allies must disable. On the left is an elevator complete with muzak (The panel lights go side to side to correspond to the elevator movement):

–Objective Info–
Allies

  • Gain Access to the Castle by Destroying the Main Entrance, Building the Assault Ramp on the East Side, and/or Destroying the Side Gate in the Basement Warehouse of the Chateau

  • Capture the Forward Spawn in the Castle Courtyard shed to make the assault that much easier.

  • Dynamite the Generator (located in the courtyard) to gain access to the research facility and to secure the Courtyard Spawn.

  • Disable the Electric Floor Controls to gain access to the radar part. Otherwise, anyone stepping into the radar room will get a “shocking” surprise.

  • Take the Radar Part and secure it to the truck outside the castle wall, near the main gate.

  • If constructed, dynamite the Truck Barrier, and escort that truck out of there to win the match.

  • Build a Command Post, located very close to the western wall on the first floor.

Axis

  • Defend the Castle’s Walls by preventing the destruction of the Main Entrance, rebuilding the Side Gate if compromised, and destroying the Assault Ramp if constructed.

  • Defend the Forward Spawn in the Castle Courtyard shed to continue defending the castle walls.

  • Prevent the destruction of the generator (located in the courtyard) to keep the facility within the castle locked down and the Courtyard Spawn under Axis control (if captured, of course).

  • Maintain the Electric Floor Controls so the Allies can not take the Radar Part.

  • Don’t let the Allies steal the Radar Part and take it to the truck outside the castle, near the main gate.

  • Disable the truck and build the truck barrier to prevent the Allies from escaping with the Radar Part.

  • Build a Command Post, located very close to the western wall on the first floor.

Silicon: I was 70% certain that I happened to use RTCW textures, but Quake 3? Wow, I haven’t played that game in years and years… given that I play on a server that rotates a lot of customs and that this is my first map, I had no idea that Radiant would innocently take textures from all the other pk3s. So, a month ago, when I read that Radiant did take all the textures I ever got, I went on a 3-day texture hunt through the etmain folder. Fun times. But now I know to use a pure install of ET, and I am a wiser texture user that will be more careful of copyrights in the future.

Ugh, that list is a trip down some bad memories, especially that grass_mine and dirt_mine shader fiasco. Shaders will be the death of me. But I guess that 2% bloat isn’t so bad for my first try, hm? :slight_smile: I’ll put the pk3 on the treadmill, though, see what I can do to slim 'er down. Maybe Atkins for ET?

Also, I would like to give a hearty thanks to chavo_one for letting me use his beautiful Venice sky. Hopefully I’m not the only person that got tired of the “dramatic” rain, snow, or cloudy day with lightning.

It looks totally awesome! :eek3: I’m in awe. The gallery room looks great but I definitely like the lobby better. That is just so awesome… did you base the castle on an actual place or did you just use your imagination? How much planning does a castle like that take?

I did a bit of research on French castles, but mostly it was all in my head. :slight_smile: As far as planning goes, first I do the basic walls of the castle. Then, I do a rough sketch of the place, and then try to get Radiant to get as close as it can with the sketch. I wish I could change some of the room dimensions in Radiant, but it’s hard to put things to scale on plain notebook paper. Of course, before I did any decoration, I had to get all the blasted scripting to work. Eye candy is last.The lobby took about an hour to think about and draw (while at work, heh heh), and another hour to decorate and align textures.

As allied I entered the side bunker storeroom and then could not get back out without using noclip.:banghead: - hidden switch?

Should be fun with a lot of people. :slight_smile:

Ha ha, of course the taps are jammed and the cooler is locked! No drinking on the job, soldier! :beer: Wish I could stick this little guy somewhere in there, though: :banana:

As for getting stuck… yes, the Allies will get stuck in that one room, but the advancing Axis will take care of that really quick. Either that, or eat a grenade.

I just played this for the first time on xD yesterday, and it is FREAKING AMAZING. My new favorite map!

I played as axis and defending the castle was really really fun.
