Why can’t there be balance tweaks in the future for certain mercs?

But that’s the plan. Like SD said, all new mercs will get a testing phase to keep the balance intact.

Of course you can change them. Drastic tweaks however warrant a refund of the in-game currency. Also something WoT does.

Comp as in the official matchmaking system, not ranked public, and only in the case of “special” loadouts with different abilities. If those are only obtainable through rank xp grind or money.
Otherwise we might see restrictions in leagues & tournaments, sticking to “default” loadouts and dividing pub & comp once again.
Again I’m not referring to skins.

But it seems it’s kind of a pointless discussion now thanks to badman clarification:

Not if SD offers a superior integrated platform for competition.

If I remember correctly Founders will be continuously alpha testing new content for DB. So in the hope that all loadouts are balanced very closely then it won’t matter in comp. LoL pulls it off very well, and if a certain champ is ‘OP’ they remove it from comp until the devs re-balance it.

I actually do not like the way BF3 handles unlocks - it’s too…limiting (not the best word?)

I can understand playing and earning xp/points to unlock gear as sort of a “carrot/stick” mechanic (although from a competitive standpoint, I never really saw how such a system could be balanced, if Team A has everything unlocked and Team B does not) but why limit it per weapon? Why can I only unlock features for the weapon I have equipped? I find it more convenient, diverse, and more fun overall, if players just earned xp or whatever, and were able to spend it on whatever they want, regardless of class or loadout. For balance purposes, you could make gear lvl dependent.

BF3 is identical to COD unlocks. I agree with H0RSE here. It’s linear and not remotely interesting. You don’t get the feeling you own your player profile.
