Character: Nader (Likes/Dislikes) Impressions?

(Evil-Doer) #1

Thought it would be cool to have specific threads for each character, so maybe there can be a deeper discussion about how everyone is feeling about specific characters?

Nader, after an initial bad feeling about the lack lusterness and effectiveness of her, and hearing Imageomega enjoying her more than I did…I decided to give her more time and work with the abilities and weapons more.

I was going for more of a spam to push or spam to hold back approach, but with the radius of the grenades slim to none it wasn’t very effective. But, then I took Image’s approach of direct hits and more finishing with secondary. With that said - I feel personally that the grenades should come out slightly faster to see if it makes aiming the grenades more reliable in close quarters. I mean the learning curve now with the slow shot can be done, but kind of feel it’s a little to low.

I agree with image here. With the radius damage so low and having to be more effective with direct shots, maybe a faster reload can keep this character with the momentum of the game more.

I love how the grenade launcher looks, but could have some more devastating sounds to go along with it  (which I’m sure your planning)

If the radius of the grenade damage get’s increased instead, then the speed of the shots could possibly be fine. Just depends which way we decide to go with everything.

I didnt play much with her, but so far the only thing which annoys me a bit, is the spam on nades she causes. But I think its just a fine tuning. So overall I’m pretty happy with this new merc

Used her for a round and mainly used to sit back and make bank shots to the back of the EV, getting some kills.

I think the gun is pretty well fine as is. Faster projectiles and/or faster reload would only increase spam. I thought it was pretty effective when used in the right capacity.

Haven’t played with/against her enough to form an opinion yet, but that nickname sounds too manly. Why not “Nadia” or “Nadine”?

(Dormamu) #5

I like Nader, copy+pasta Tribes Ascend Raider weapons imo :D, i will like her more if i could use the ammo as hand-grenades with less radius, same damage as the real ones.

(Mustang) #6

Needs some serious balancing, feels like I’m pissing in the wind.

(Dormamu) #7

Sorry for my post #5, a bit stupid and angry when i wrote it :D. So here are my thoughts:
I like Nader, i think is balanced, as a front line class is a bit weak, as a crowd control and support class is pretty good. In my opinion, if you increase the dmg, radius or rof, Nader will become to good. At least give her a pistol if you decide to make changes to the GL.
At the moment if i play this class i depend on the Fd.Ops and the medic, which is good cos i can’t go rambo, and if i get away from the team i’m dead.
Got some double kills with GL, tho i blame it on my noob luck and the fact that the other players were low on health. The best class to lay back and killsteal
All in all for the current tdm pub play i give it 8/10

Said elsewhere - but I’d move the GL to a secondary weapon slot, reduce the clip size to three and increase either the RoF or dmg slightly. The primary would be an AR. I detest martyrdom on principle, but am not above using it myself…

(rookie1) #9

like but would like a bit more dmg but no increase in radius ,she will become too strong …and a bit less amo .Martyrdom can be effective if she stay incapacited in a corner ready to detonate

(rookie1) #10

agree …

Nadine ftw

Nade launcher: has nice aiming possibilities but very ineffective in taking someone down (need a direct hit to do any damage at all) or the EV, but got a few kills with it so not too bad I guess, but a lot less effective than regular ARs etc. Increase the splash damage, SD :).

Secondary: found this more effective - reminded me of the soldier MP in QW - a good finishing weapon but thats about it.

Martyrdom: the ‘its about to go off thing’ is too easy to see and avoid, fun to time it on unsuspecting victims though :).

Grenade launcher isnt that bad. Always when I hit someone I got most of the time double kills^^ If you hit the hitboxes then someone is down with one or two shots.
I like how you can bounce the nades around corners. After you bounce them off, the timespan from bouncing to exploding is slightly too short. Idk that was my initial thought playing it for the first time.

Maybe a better secondary weapon is appropriate. It says assault weapon XX, she should get the m16 imo rather than the pee shooter, cause GL is not that easy to get kills. But never increase splash radius! Otherwise it will become a spam and kill machine^^

A cooking ability can do a lot to the efficiency without increases splash radius a lot. (it hasnt an alternative fire mode anyways)

That Martyrdom is pretty useful if ppl dont pay attention^^

I totally agree!

I haven’t played enough as Nader to really have much to say about her weapons (aside from that the GL is a very different style of play, which is cool). But playing against her, I do have an opinion on her perk, martyrdom: knowing that she’s the only character with the perk, it really nullifies any kind of “surprise” value to it (even with it being triggered manually). After I put 2 and 2 together “if it’s Nader, they have martyrdom” I haven’t gotten killed by the perk yet. And I’ve never gotten a kill with it either, so I’d assume other players have come to this conclusion as well.

This could be resolved (make it so the grenade doesn’t beep, for example), but I know that martyrdom in games is usually a pretty hated perk, and it’s kind of boring anyway… so I’d rather see it replaced, but that’s just my opinion.

(1-800-NOTHING) #15

i think the martyrdom grenade should be usable before you die, just like a normal grenade. but if you have already used it, you can’t use martyrdom.

secondary weapon needs more ammo per magazine.
preferrably a slightly more powerful weapon (smg?), as well. perhaps balanced by reducing the “magazine size” on the gl, but without reducing the reserve grenade ammo.

gl needs better gibbing power, imo.

(iwound) #16

id also like a running martyrdom. was great in CS.

edit** activate then 5 sec countdown while still running and player blinks red
so enemy can clearly see what they are up to and “run awaaay”.

also she’s got a big bum. bigger target… its relevant.

(montheponies) #17

I think a running martyrdom makes a lot more sense - provided you remove the ability to fire it off once downed. I could see the situation of running into a crowded room and just dropping the nade- perhaps giving her a 1 or 2s invul (call it an adrenaline rush), but you cant move once pin has been pulled. Alernative would be just to drop a nade - more like a benny hill mechanic, where you bait someone - they chase you and as you round a corner just drop the nade for them to run over…

Either way, I’d remove the ability to use it when downed.

(INF3RN0) #18

I think Nader should have an “Alt fire” to the GL. Something like ‘sticky nades’ where the nade shot in alt fire mode sticks to an obj/wall instead of bouncing. That would be cool.

(montheponies) #19

Isn’t that just a blatant copy of demoman?

orly? I didnt notice running martyrdom in any CS so far but nvm.

The basic demoman weapon is quite similiar to what we have in DB. The main differnces are that he has 4 projectiles (pipes) per clip while he has less resload time as well as more starting ammo. Also there are amo pickups in TF2 so in TF2 you never suffer from lacking ammo as a demoman unless you play him as a “spamoman”.
The one thing I really dislike on nader is that the projectiles dont always instantly explode on hitting an enemy but bounce off a little.

The main difference is the secondary, though. Naders secondary seems a little weak to me. While the Deomoman’s secondary provides great escaping power, allows you to control doorways and can also be used to almost snipe enemies even in air if you are good at it plus you can jump with them. So compared to a demoman nader is poorly equipped atm and much less versatile.
