Character Idea: Trickster

This merc is all about confusing the hell out of the enemy:

Two active abilities.

Active: Disguise as whoever character he targets. This will only change the looks of the merc and does nothing to team-indication (still appear hostile to opponents).

Active: Feign death. Player appears to die until he choses to get back up again.

Passive: Whenever the merc is killed, a timer will start counting and after say, 10 seconds, the merc will stand up again. Always. The only way to prevent this from happening is to tap out (suicide), be gibbed by opponents or revived by medics.

What does this all mean? We end up with a merc that appears as any other merc, can bluff and make players make the wrong deciscions. It’s a very ‘slippery’ merc who’s able to make the opponent team incredibly paranoid about gibbing the opposition (because they can’t determine which player is able to stand up again by looks alone).

Combined you’ve got a player who can ‘act’ his way to the objective, have multiple opportunities to stand back up at the most unfortunate moments for the opponent and overall compell the opponent players to sink more effort into checking who’s alive and who isn’t.

Sorry to say, but this is extremely bad…

  1. The first Active ability will simply not work, this is very fast and people just spray around on everyone pretty much, so if there is no indication of the guy being on their team… it doesn’t matter what character he is… then it could just be that character on the other team, rather than one on your own… really pointless.

  2. No, will be overused and overpowered in a lot of situations.

The first ability is mostly to make the second (and passive) one work. I agree that it has very little use outside that.

I always enjoyed stealing pants in ET and sneaking into Fuel Dump, so… Disguised enemies are fun to me.

I could get behind having disguised enemies in XT if there were a purpose outside of just confusing the enemy team. e.g. Unless there are team-only doors or functions.

For the character you’re proposing, some other ideas may be something like a ‘Holoduke’ where there’s a static decoy, or even the decoys they use in Halo.

Additionally, maybe some consumable radar jammers or something that eliminates the ‘team/enemy’ indicators would add some confusion.

This one isn’t about disguising as an enemy though. I definitely another character that is able to do that will appear soon.

This one is about confusing the enemy about whether or not he still lives or not. The disguise is only mean to make sure that opponents can’t tell in advance with whom they’re dealing with.

I do like the holograms. Also room for another character.

Would be fun if a character could spawn say three clones of himself. Harmless bot decoys that just run off in all kinds of directions. That’s more fun than a static hologram.

Similar to Spook’s chameleon suggestion - stealing the look or disguising as an enemy.

I like the idea and hope something of the like makes it into the game. The part about appearing hostile to opponents should only be when someone looks directly at him (or function similar to disguises in ET).
