Character Deletion

(Mustang) #21

I know there are some that don’t
Killing Floor or Alien Swarm maybe?
Not 100% about those two, but they are out there

Also are there any other idTech4 games on Steam?

Because it has multiple characters per account that usually come with unique names.

(Mustkunstn1k) #23

Well, you can name the characters, but there is no reason they should have character names in the game. I mean CoD games have custom classes (many games actually have those), but you still have your main name in the game itself. Besides, it would be weird if I would change my character for the next match and then my name would change too in the server.

It would be different, but not weird
Comparing to another game, as you have, this is how Guild Wars matches work
Change character between matches and your name changes

(LyndonL) #25

Every SteamWorks MP game I’ve seen uses your current set Steam name (The changeable one). From L4D to COD to Killng Floor and Alien Swarm - they all use your Steam Name - NOT the account name, the user definable one).

i dont play a lot of steamworks online games so what happens if 3 people what the same name join the server.

what if a cheater changes his name to say “badman” and then goes on an aimbot rampage, how would you tell who is real one and who is isnt?

The same way you could in old school shooters… by their GUID or in this case their steamid. It will be an option in the console to list players steamids

I’m not sure about the rest of you but I am taking Badman’s statement to indicate there is no naming of individual characters.
