Chapel... um... Why?

(hawkeyeguy99) #1

Why do people love chapel so stinking much? For me personally it’s my least favorite map, which I’ll go into detail why later, but I just wondered why everyone is in love with it? It’s pretty much the Dust 2 of DB and while I can understand the Dust 2 hype for CS, I don’t really get the Chapel to DB.

Here’s why I don’t like it:
The final objective is ridiculously defender sided. If the defenders have a chance to setup in that corner and have players who at least know slightly what they’re doing on the map, it’s insanely difficult for the attackers to even get close to delivering the objective. There’s barely any cover for the attackers to advance with. The defenders also have 0 blind spots for the attackers to get through or flank through, making the advance frustrating at the very least. I can’t tell you how often the whole match grinds to a halt at this objective and no progress is made for either side, that’s just not fun.

Mainly it’s the final objective for me that’s crazy frustrating and not fun to play, making it my least favorite map in all of DB. I’d rather play 3 execution matches than one objective on Chapel

not a fact, thats subjective opinion

you can perform miracle moves with fire support mercs and easily spawn camped their exit with just a bushwhacker

the map is mainly only good if your team dont camp as attacker and not stupid enough to push as defenders

I like underground the most. I usualy equip vasili for use on the final obj most people dont seem to come at me when siting on top stairs covering planted c4. If planted corecly its a clear shot from top stairs to snipe any one disarming

In general, EV maps are preferred because of how useful Fire Supports and Engineers are. (Read: The EV prints Game Mode XP.) They force dynamic flashpoints around a moving objective, and as defenders, there’s no action after clearing it, you can immediately set up to prevent repairs or further escort.

The end of the EV escort can be a bit of a slog, if the attackers don’t get most of the enemy down, it’s really hard to push successfully, especially with the difference in distance to the objective. If anything, that is the part I enjoy the least, even if it is satisfying to defend.

I like Chapel Stage 3.
If defenders decide to cluster around the point, Aerial Destruction becomes very effective, because they have nowhere to safely retreat to. If they hold aggressively, there are plenty of opportunities to flank. Even if defenders lose site control, they generally get one spawnwave to throw some corpses into stopping it, as opposed to Bridge, where once the first is taken, it generally snowballs into both deliveries. There is plenty of attacker cover if you know where to move, although I primarily play Arty, so line of sight to targets isn’t necessarily an issue for me.

Not saying it’s a fact, that’s just been my experience. True, I may have stated it wrong but it definitely has been more defender sided than non in the games I play on it. I think it needs tweaking, maybe more cover for the attackers to advance or something because right now there is no way to get in there without at least the majority of the defending team being dead or you are playing against idiots.

(Terminal_6) #6

When we say that an area is “defender-sided” does that mean that it’s easier to hold down for the defenders, or its more intuitive for idiots to position themselves?
Chapel’s 3rd objective fulfills both, and I think Bridge’s 3rd also does so to a lesser extent because the defenders actually need to turn their heads to cover all the entrances. But in both cases, it’s only a stalwart defense until people get out of place. Then the attackers own it.

Chapel’s 3rd objective is most certainly not defender-sided in pubs. People tend to crowd behind the rock and red bus, which is pretty much suicide since Kira, Arty, Nader and Skyhammer can easily wipe them all away. Seriously, I’ve gotten by far the most of my Explodydendrons and Booms in that area.

(frostyvampire) #8
  1. Sniper and Sparks friendly
  2. Arty xp farm
  3. Skyhammer easy teamwipe on last point (on attack)
  4. Really cool night time design
  5. Not very Aura friendly (except the last point)
  6. Not shotgun friendly

But I really can’t see why do people in csgo like Dust 2 so much. I never even put it in my map queue

Are you high?

(Eox) #10

I feel you bro. I feel you.

I though I was the only guy in the world who hated Chapel by the way. Glad to see I am not alone.

(LifeupOmega) #11

Eox I’m banning you right now for this sacrilegious text.

(Chilled Sanity) #12

Deef to chapelelel

(SaulWolfden) #13

I just get sick of it always getting voted if I hop to a different server. I have to have Arty in my squad on Chapel, he’s just too good on that map, least as a defender. He can still clear out groups of people as an attacker.

(Eox) #14

Fuck the cops !

(Chilled Sanity) #15

@$!# the cops ![/quote]

But memeox …ur da cops

(bgyoshi) #16

My favorite part about Chapel is how easy it is to spawncamp attackers at the start and how easy it is to spawncamp defenders in Stage 3. I do it every time because you can see directly into both spawns without trying.

Oh wait I forgot, I stopped playing Chapel 15 months ago

(hawkeyeguy99) #17

I think Chapel in general lends itself to stomps. You either really win, or you really lose at the 3rd objective and it’s not like you can make good progress towards getting the objective done. That’s why I like maps like Dome or Underground, they have numerous secondary objectives that don’t win or lose the game but can effect which team has the advantage. The secondary objectives on Chapel don’t really help either side. The MG objective just lends yourself to being sniped because everyone checks there for snipers. The bridge objective is useless because it’s a long trip over without any cover and once you arrive there’s still not much cover and just one Arty strike or Kira laser, or Skydude bomb, or a few nades and you’re dead and useless to the team.

There needs to be a re-work to how secondary objectives work on Chapel imo, to make them actually useful to a team who knows how to use them.

(Pumpkiller) #18

What i always notice when i play in Chapel is that victory comes from how many useful fire supports there are in each team,i suggested that strategy in ranked (2 Arties, one Kira and one Sky+a Aura),and when we got to defend, they couldn’t even touch the ev in the first phase.

I don’t get why SD placed so many corridors for attackers on this map,it’s ridiculious.

Chapel is one of the most balanced maps in terms of merc viability. You can literally use any merc and do well with chapel. Fire supports dominate 2nd and 3rd Objective. Snipers can dominate 1st and 2nd and 3rd. Supports are specially needed 3rd and 1st objectives. Engineers are vital in Chapel for 1st and 2nd. Then there is Phantom. I guess he can be useful… somewhere.

I, in general, really love EV maps. That’s why I like Bridge and, soon, Dockyard.

I don’t either. Absolutely hate Dust 2.

(Press E) #20

I like chapel just because of the large amount of mercs that I can play well on it. Almost every merc is suited well to it, whereas other maps are more specialized.

For instance, I can do insanely well as kira or aura, but a map like bridge is limited in areas that a laser would be useful in, and has little cover for med stations compared to chapel.
