Nothing, but setting a minimum requirement to unlock it makes it special. It turns it from nothing important into a reward.

It also prevents randoms from uploading whatever the heck they want.

Most importantly, we have to manually moderate images on the forum, no system auto filters them out. It makes it easier to moderate if only people that have spent a good bit of time here can upload a custom avatar.

Be Warned, Any abuse of this function will be dealt with severely. Any images you upload get saved to your profile so we can see the images you have used even after you take them down or replace them.

  • Do not post images on the forums that can be insulting; promote adult behavior and activities; suggestive actions; violence; and/or p***ography.
  • Moderators have final say on if an image is deemed inappropriate."

With all due respect that is a pretty bad answer.
Firstly, if you dont want people to post inappropriate content they could just post those thing in threads.
Second, a profile pic is not supposed to be special or a reward, it is supposed to be something that represents the user (or some shit like that i’m not much for these stuff).

BTW: I hope my pic is not inappropriate, if it is I will change it.
