Changing the starting mercs to suite your playstyle?

Just an idea I had, not sure it would go through too well as Aura and Skyhammer are both relatively easy to learn. For it to be pulled off there’d probably need to be additional parts in the tutorial.

What I had in mind was that; like the merc packs they put up not too long ago, you could actually choose a group of 2 mercs that suite how you want to play, instead of the usual Skyhammer and Aura.

So for example things like;

“Sniper” where you get Vasilli and Sparks.

“Assault” where you get Fragger and Sawbonez.

I think every group would need a medic just to be sure newer players could actually play as medic if needed, or perhaps Aura should just be everyones default merc, with one other merc that relates to how they want to play.

So just Aura + Someone you fancy playing as.

I’m not too sure, just a little idea I had, tell me your thoughts about it.

What I would find interesting is that new players instead of getting skyhammer and aura generically would recieve 2 “merc cases”. When opened, you’d get 2 random mercs. but that aint happening.

I had one of those, being Nader as well. I was spamming V-2-2 most of the game and ended up frustrated next to an ammo crate.

Since then I always bring Kira or Aura and play the deploy&pack game when I’m really pissed at my team. It doesn’t help, but at least I get progress to my daily waterboy, which I usually have.

Bear in mind, that giving people a choice between mercs is likely to leave them regret their decision and increase support-inquiries. They weren’t able to hand refunds for already bought mercs after you spent actual money, so they won’t be able to ahndle free players regretting their decisions at all.

They could just make it so new players are able to change their choice within 24/48/72 hours of their initial choice.

I think it’s good that the two starting mercs have support abilities(resupplying ammo and healing/reviving). It helps newbies realize(after a lot of time, unfortunately) that supporting in DB is actually a viable way to gain lots of XP, unlike other games where kills matter the most.

A good way to help them find out which merc suits their play style the most would be to introduce an offline tutorial map where you can try out all the mercs for free.
Tagging mercs as “sniper”, “assault” etc. and letting new players pick their 2 starting ones sounds like a bad idea imo.

Oh. My. God. In my games there’s at least an Aura or a Vassili among the Skyhammers… But a full Skyhammer team? Damn, I bet you still had to rely on ammo crates :frowning:

Oh. My. God. In my games there’s at least an Aura or a Vassili among the Skyhammers… But a full Skyhammer team? Damn, I bet you still had to rely on ammo crates :frowning: [/quote]
Surprisingly there was a few ammo packs lying around, though nowhere near enough to represent 6 Skyhammers. :s

Why not change cases to only give you cards for mercs you have access to?

Because then some people might feel upset that they are getting penalized on their chances of getting a specific card for a merc simply because they have more mercs than somebody else.

Plus when free rotation comes around people may wants cards for mercs they dont own, instead of the default skin

I feel like you should be able to choose your starter mercs or do a random drop or something.
