Changing textures

I tried to make a mod with only a few texture files in it. I used the same name / path as in the pak0.pk3 , but edited the jpg’s and tga’s. When i run this pk3, which is placed in the jaymod folder, the server crashes :

“error occurs during compile run time” or something like that.

I used Winzip 11.2 to pack it.

Any ideas ?

It’s not a pk3 file it’s a pk3.zip file.
You should try to rename it.

No, thats just the screenshot. Its called …pk3. :smiley:

The .pk3 has to be the format, not .zip. So as said, mylittlemod.pk3 or what ever, not mylittlemod.pk3.zip.

I unzipt the orginal files to a map, then edited the original image files, saved them as .jpg or .tga and zipped the entire structure again. Last I did is renaming the WS-Billboards.zip to WS-Billboards.pk3 and put it in the jaymod folder. What do you guys use to make a pk3 ?

If you look at the pic you sent, you see it is .pk3.zip. I use the PakScape. (google.)

I just tried pakscape to pack it. When the server starts, I get this error. Do you have to save the jpg’s in a specific way ? Progresive off, optimize, subformat 4:2:2 or 4:4:4 ? I try one with only tga…

I tried only the tga files in the pk3, works fine…

Found it ! Disable the progresive and optimize…

To figure out the correct .jpg format can be a pain…
Your next step is scripting, then you will create a skinpack. :slight_smile:

u dont need any program to make a *.pk3. u make a zip and rename to *.pk3. a *.pk3 is a renamed *.zip. however, to viewing or editing *.pk3s, pakscape is good indeed, i also using it.
