Changing First Person Animations?

(Jay) #1

I’ve been looking to edit the animations for the 1st person views (such as firing and reloading weapons). I searched the forums and looked at the player model stickey but all of them referred to the 3rd person body models/animations.

I got LightRay3D after reading the thread and imported a few of the mdm/mdx files but, again, they were all the character models. I also imported some of the weapon .mdc’s but none of these have animations (unless I’m importing them improperly).

For example I saw this in sten.weap.

firstPerson {
			model "models/weapons2/sten/v_sten.md3"

However, the targeted file doesn’t even exist. The only file with that name is v_sten.mdc, which also contained no animation.

So if anyone has info on this, it would be appreciated.

And if there is a thread exists on this and I just missed it, just link me there and I’ll be on my way.

try opening the knife model files, I’m sure there are some animations in them
In 3ds max you have to enable to load all the ‘tags’ in the file, these are little triangles that are used for the animations
but I don’t know how to make new animations (I would also like to now that)

v_xx_hand.mdc/3 contains vertex animated tags, on those tags are attached static weapon models
NOTE: if you export as md3 and original pk3 is containing MDC, rename your model and change pathes to it ( because md3 in another pk3 doesn’t override MDC )

in which folder is that v_xx_hand.mdc/3 or do you mean with xx the name of the weapon, like v_thompson_hand?

(Jaquboss) #5

yeah like v_thompson_hand

oh, and before I start changing animations, at wath coordinates should I place the camera to resemble the ingame-view as closely as possible?

Well, import the weapon model over the tags and then position the camera so what you see in the perspective window is the same as what you would see when holding the gun in-game.

Edit
Also, in 3ds max 8, I cannot find an import/export plugin for .mdc or .md3. Anyone have a link?

I’ll upload them in a few minutes for you

-edit- here they are:
(they’re scripts, put them in the scripts/startup folder)
-MDSimporter
http://www.filefactory.com/?f5b531
-MD3importer
http://www.filefactory.com/?c789d9
-MDCimporter
http://www.filefactory.com/?9bc56a
and this one is a plugin so you’ll have to put it in the plugin map
-MD3 export
http://www.filefactory.com/?6d5860

note that when those files aren’t downloaded for 15 days they’ll be removed, so be quick

when you export a weapon as md3 and whant to use it in game you’ll notice that there’s no text file where you can tell it wich texture to use, for that you’ll have to use milkshape as it makes an extra file with the texture thingies

Thank you

Hopefully my attention span won’t expire before I finish!
