Chance to have dedicated Servers? / Linux Version?

(phila_delphia) #1

Hi there!

SD once said that there will be a chance to have dedicated servers / host own servers for Dirty Bomb? Is there any news about it? For us as a clan who hopes to make DB the major clan game this would be critical? I also would like to know if there is a chance to get a Linux Version of the game.

Best regards

phila

Of course, private/dedicated servers are important. As for Linux there are no plans for that at this time.

I would assume that a Linux version would only happen if things like the STEAM OS pick up in future or of Valve subsidise the development of Linux versions of games. Personally, if I was a developer, I would wait before going into Linux right now as it may be much cheaper by simply waiting.

As far as I am aware, even the servers run on windows currently.

Due to lack of custom content at the moment, I would also guess that any server rentals may happen directly though SD/Nexon.

Just hire Ryan Gordon for a week, done.

That’s good to know. Would love to host my own private/dedicated server for me and some friends. Even if it’s unranked, it will still be better than nothing

/me doing happy dance !!! Any information of when and how we would get dedicated server stuff available? Would love to be part of beta for servers too!

(Jarppa) #7

Any change to get more information of your plans and timelines for dedicated server?

(ev1ldarks) #8

At least, having only the server part running on linux ?
As we all have a Linux box at home waiting for it xD

(Nail) #9

the servers are dedicated as it is, dedicated servers only mean it’s not peer to peer
while the chance of renting a clan type server is good, pretty sure server binaries for anything outside LAN are imo slim, Linux even slimmer

(Jarppa) #10

I think above is clear, at least to me that there will be binaries that we can install our self to our own hardware. And to me, past 15 years, when we have said dedicated server, it is something that you have control (and install it by our own)… oh well, we’ll see.

I just hope they’ll provide more information of their plans regarding this.

(Nail) #11

well, you’re wrong, and you obviously don’t understand Community Manager speak
I listen to what the devs tell me, not a nice little girl who works for a separate company 8000 miles away. And private servers usually means rentals

@jarppa, Nail has the correct definition of a dedicated server, rentals with the option to add a password = “private server” There hasn’t been the slightest hint of binaries being made available, from the developers.

Don’t hold your breath

Cool, I don’t argue about the definition of private/dedicated  I guess they’ll share their plan once they’re ready. Gah, I was almost turning to blue…

some of us have access to the developers forum from Alpha days and therefore a bit more info, but we’re still under NDA. I have 3 separate NDAs to be concerned with so I have to be very careful about what I say

I realy like to see my own ded server running

So, no chance to have the smart “ranked/unranked” servers system like in etqw… what a pity, it was a good idea imho ^^

(Szakalot) #17

that didn’t really work. Most people would go for ranked to get their random stats boosted. Imagine how much worse it would be if you didn’t get in-game$$$ for unranked.

(ev1ldarks) #18

I myself enjoyed playing ETQW on unranked servers, with people more interested in teamplay than XP and rewards ^^

But here, it’s completely different with loadouts : unranked servers are indeed useless ^^

If you want this game alive for a long time as Conter strike series, you must give to the user the opportunity to have their own Lnx/Win server.

  1. To Have fun with thier friends
  2. for the competitive mode ( only CS:GO is active as FPS game; BF and COD series are dead)

I’m testing this game and seems very funny and perfect for some online tournament.

I get your point but why didn’t you make new discussion about this, and instead found a year old discussion… ?

Well it is your first post on this forums, but don’t comment on old posts, just make a new one  and I agree with your point but I think servers here are limited.
