Is the skill level of bots in the challenges related to your own rank?
Anybody knows?

Like unfair. You shoot them from behind and they turn around in half a second and headshot you (just impossible for a human).
Possible with grenade knockdown and a barnett. I’ve schooled some hard bots. Also their ability to do that is situational.
Technically, they don’t get harder skill-wise. That is only controlled by the star level of the challenge.
They do match your level, so they have a lot more abilities at level 20. They get a random 50% of the abilities for whatever class they are, which is determined when they spawn in (bots only switch classes on spawning).
Interesting. So you can keep restarting looking for a spawn where the soldiers don’t get increased grenade damage and the medic doesn’t get increased health buffs… difficult to tell and probably take a lot of restarts to get the perfect opposition but still interesting.

Bots don’t switch classes?
Not that it’s a game changer, but a very interesting piece of information.

Could make the difference if you end up on a mostly bot team and none of them are of the objective class. Then a human has to switch class.
That’s actually not possible. There are essentially class ‘loadouts’ set for each objective, so there are always at least a couple primary objective class bots. If the player is the objective class, they count that as one filled. There are normally 4-5 specified slots, and then the rest are random.
I think in the challenges the classes are set for all the bots, though. The only randomness is what abilities they select.
Though you can’t deny that on the PC at least the bots at level 20 have insane shooting skill. I mean head shots R us (from the other side of the map).

Does that calculation get done when people disconnect and get replaced by bots too?
I’d assume so, but it never hurts to ask.
Very common on hard, and very rare on easy.
As for the query, I think the bots are not getting difficult not in the sense of their general skill, more on getting difficult because they’re starting to get their own, random, sets of abilities.
So yeah, if one is going to tackle those challenges, I’d advise to do those on lower level/rank.
I’m not denying this; I’m saying given the right circumstances, they can do this at level 1.
To me those bots are perfect. Anything lower would be less fun.
Maybe make another difficulty level under hard (or renamed) but their skill has to be insane for better players.

“(bots only switch classes on spawning).”
I noticed that already. I tend to trying to take out JUST the objective class bots when I’m playing defense in hopes that they will randomly switch. The others I leave so they don’t. That’s why it seems like they go all brothers in arms. Because you kill ALL of them near the objective and they respawn as objective class and ruin your life.
Objective class bots are also more aggressive the closer they get to their target objective.
This is also the same with medic bots near downed allies. That’s why bots seem to get distracted instead of reviving you like a human would. They seem to try to sweep and clear the WHOLE ROOM before they actually revive anyone at times.
The distances from their target where they go aggro seems to be randomly determined. But keep in mind that a bot “GUARDING” an objective fights more unfairly then a bot on it’s way to the objective. At least on it’s way until it gets close to it’s target objective.
I tend to treat bots like killer bees. I try to take them on one at a time in transit and avoid picking a fight in front of the hive. Or they will just swarm me to defend that objective.
In addition, attack bots from the side or back if they are headed to an objective and they will be less effective when they return fire. Get in the way of their “beeline” and they will mow you down and keep moving. Attack them while they are just standing near the objective and THAT bot and every bot within that randomly determined distance will attack you.
Devs can inform me of any inaccuracies in my observations.
Edit: Also bot skill isn’t entirely decided by level. It’s very obviously decided by a combination of your level, location of where you attack them, and whatever parameters they are currently pursuing. Bots seem to be ruthless in reaching the objective. Even though some of them seem to get confused and guard that objective on offense when they can actually complete the objective. This is probably on purpose to give us fleshy pink humans a fighting chance.
Wish you could! Had one bot standing right next to the hydro fuel pump, with the fuel and the damn bot wouldn’t do anything cept run around!
Really should allow TK on bots :oppressor:
Don’t you hate it when a heavy-body bot picks up the objective? The best thing that can happen is for him to start a firefight, get killed, and then a light-body human can grab the objective. Otherwise, there’s me screaming at my monitor, “Filthy bot! Filthy stupid bot! You die now!”
