Hrm… I guess some aren’t getting the point. It was a simple comparison to establish a point. It’s blantantly obvious that the topic has nothing to do with the direction of QW or criticism of it.
Well, in my opinion the user (client) should not be forced to have "cg_wolfparticles 1 ". Everyone has the option to disable them and so it is just fair: you choose for a better looking game, or you choose for a better view.
It’s a bit offtopic, but for the people that don’t agree with me:
what do you think of the blood in front of your face then?.. Should that be forced too? (Just curious

tell ya what, I’ll run a little poll on our site and see how many ppl play with wolfparticles on, should be fairly accurate, not that many “pro” players drop by
i think your result will be inacturate
the majority of player i expect are not the harcore gamer type and problable dont even know you can customize the game beyond the system menu and you wont find them on your website to vote
if a small thing could be built into a ET pup mod or something to record individaul IP address and the setting then you could get more accurate info

I don’t think that many pro types visit our little fan site, so I think the poll should be quite accurate, I’ll let it run for a few days and post the results back here
A more accurate measure would be to monitor (using PB_SV_CVARVAL) on one or more popular servers.
On the standard settings it obscures the view for way too long IMHO, but without it I sometimes don’t even notice I’m getting shot. 
I shortened the flash time and lowered the alpha.

Well, your view really gets limited by the blood, especially when you are hit several times. So disabling blood gives you an advantage, but like the post above this one says: it gives you a disadvantage too (it is harder to notice if you are getting shot).

IMO, playing with wolfparticles off is a two edged sword : if it’s off, sure you can see through some explosions - it still draws covert ops smoke, and the blue or red airstrike/arty markers. On the other side, being unable to see explosions doesn’t give me an advantage if i walk into them on a regular basis.
On a full server, when there’s a few arty-nazis on both teams, my fps will drop by about 60. That’s no fun. Besides, if I wanted pretty graphics, I wouldnt be playing this old game.

maby but i bet more n00bish types who dont tweak configs and stuff dont visit your site. the only “fair” way i can see is actuly taking the results from a server running for a period of time. still then some servers atract more pro types then other so realy i gess it should be left to the server admint to decide if its ok or not
