Wow nice looking Cathedral cant wait to see the rest of the map ,thats a whole lot of work there, by the look of the screenies VERY well done hope the finished map keeps that quality
Very nice work blushing_bride keep it up :drink:
cathedral (wip) screens
Nice work, you paid a great attention to the detail.
I am working on something similar but on a much smaller scaleâŚ
I found this link that is somewhat related - http://www.ok-design.freesurf.fr/cathedral.htm
I canât wait for âFirst Playableâ

thanks thats a cool site, cathedrals rule. They used lots of different bits of varoius cathedrals in there, i had fun spotting them. i think i got the scale of a early english cathedral the only thing that i hate is that it is no where near long enough, it grates on my nerves that i canât double the length of the nave and trancepts but im pushing limits already so i have to live with it. making somehting on a smaller scale could probably have been more sensible. :moo:
Fuck me!
TBH Iâll say to hell with the people with comps that canât handle it (sorry!) but I WANNA SEE THIS BEAST!
more screen pimpage, two from inside and two from outside. inside are from the old batch with 8x8aa/af etc, the other two are using my normal config. frame rate not too bad so far and still gotta do a full vis

I am hesitant to even suggest this, but did you ever think of adding some fog inside the Nave?
You might be able to make it longer that way because not everything would be visable at the same time.
Maybe just enough to give it a âMistyâ look. It might help with the FPS also.
I would be a shame to hide that brushwork though.

funny you should say that i was thinking of adding fog earlier but then thought it would look odd. Ive been in four different cathedrals in the last couple of weeks and theyâre all fog free. :bash:
well⌠a slight haze inside and light streaking in would look awesome
how would you make it hazy, sounds good but i donât know how to do this. I tried making light streaking in but im very noobish with textures and know absolutly nothing about shaders and i couldânt get it to work so i decided to cheat and set the map at night. night time maps are always much easier to light.
HOLY COW my fucking god, that roxs, i mean, arcitect at work, peeps who built pyramids and peeps that built sky scrapers eat ya heart out
gives me an idea runs off and boots up radiant
really cool
keep up the good work ⌠hope i can do this one day (iâm starter
)
umm did you base this map on anywhere? cos it looks quite alot like Durham Cathedral
nope, durham is Norman (they call it Romanesque style in Europe) mines Early English Gothic (i wont bore you with the differences between the two styles but they are distinct). not based on any particular cathedral but has lots of bits borrowed from salisbury and canterbury. however there is a libary in the middle of the map that is based off the monkâs dormitory at durham but ive not shown any screen shots of it so maybe you got the Force for somehow working that out. :notworthy:
I was just thinking of the layout of it although the inside didnt really match much
iâve done almost nothing in the last two weeks due to real work so progress is slow
this is one of the underground areas that is liable to flood depending on who controls the water pumps.

this is the north trancept, only i orientated the cathedral wrong so it faces east by mistake
