I’m honestly slightly turned of by CMM. I feel like I’m playing a ranked match every time. I miss the super casual days of just dropping in and out of objective matches if I felt like it. But there’s a penalty for leaving a CMM match. Excuse me? How is that casual? It just feels too competitive in it’s current state to truly be the casual mode. What do you all think? I kinda miss quick join even with its balance problems.
Casual Match Making Isn't Casual Enough?
The way I see it, CMM is just like Ranked but with Objective and a larger playerbase. To be fair, Ranked was never particularly competitive to begin with.
So yeah, it’s not very casual. The server browser and quick join were the definition of casual; the extreme end of the casual-competitive scale. But because everyone complains about balance and the server browser/quick join were obstructions to balance, this is where we are now.
So we can’t have our cake and eat it too (for the moment) without separating the playerbase, which would be lethal to matchmaking. I hope when DB enters “full release” we get a lot of new players to expedite CMM, because a system where you have to wait to find a “balanced” match is hurt by DB’s middling playerbase.
I miss the chaotic medic XP grind of 8v8, I miss the easily accessible 40 ping servers from server browser. Being able to party up is nice though… (not like I had a chance to do so)
So, CMM is, as I believe, the future of DB, but it needs more options and much more polish, to be roughly as fun as previous casual matches. (I know, I know, everybody cried about those, well I wasn’t one of them. Sure, it caused frustration sometimes, but this weeks matches reached from “meh…” to literally unplayable)
Here’s a question that I want answered: is 8v8 and 7v7 going to be removed from the game completely at some point? Cause up until this point nothing they have done has given me major pause to continue playing but if they took away those servers and made it purely 6v6 and 5v5 I would actually consider moving to a different FPS with my time. It would be a grievious mistake to remove those larger modes imo
I think its casual enough, but the waiting is too prolonged. Now you cant feel your improvement because of waiting and you cant vote for maps like you used to. When you play alone, you meet these people you never met before. Those silent people, with their strange avatars and strange loadouts. Names that doesn’t mean anything without levels or rank. Abilities that clash more RNG than ever before. There is no second rounds, there is no journey. There is no competetion when there is no emotion. There is no emotion without factions or nemesis. It only leaves you wonder, what would have happened in next map with this bunch of faceless wankers? Sure, you are in path of inventing but a lot of good stuff is removed.
Simple solution would be rematch button that groups you with those who also pressed that button. Same sides, maybe a new faceless wanker to join the party within time.
@henki000 Well said. I like the direction they’re going with the new UI and all, but it definitely needs some work. Agree with everything you pointed out.
Feels about the same as always, with the (positive) differences of matches always starting with full teams, much less leavers and better balance. No luck of the draw like starting 4v4 and one team gets two level 3’s and the other two level 100+.
Does the surrender and pause votes work i tried but the noobs are too confused when they see it and just ask dumb questions over and over instead of hitting yes

so much this!
I’m still exclusively using the browser both objective and stopwatch for this sole reason. I love this game, but I’m not a very competitive player and never will be. This mini-ranked thing isn’t fun in the slightest.
i predicted this on older discussion
also a food for thought: the people who ask for CMM didnt play DB anymore.

Less emotions mean less frustration ( for me at least) so i am totally fine with that. I totally love that i dont see levels (and nobody can see my level). Sure sometimes when matches are balanced it would be nice to play it again but i can live with that. Match is usually found in 60-120 seconds which is good enough.
CMM and this update killed the game for me. I had high expectations, but to be honest, I should have expected a major letdown after the last few months of decisions/updates. It’s not that I don’t love DB, but I just don’t like the directions it’s going in, in terms of matchmaking, map design, gameplay, and the store. I originally expected CMM to be terrible, but I still had hope; not so much anymore.
I’m looking for another FPS and I’m a little upset that I started spending so much money on DB for it to die to me. Good thing is that I did play the game nearly everyday for 2 years, so I suppose I got my money’s worth!
CMM had potential, but there’s just too many issues and the setup itself just isn’t right for DB at the moment, probably never will. I liked the server browser and thought it would have been much better if the game is just balanced at the beginning of a match and then balanced as people join. Even if it’s just by level. You’re never going to get a perfectly balanced game because there’s too many factors. One team will always have an advantage. I guess I was the odd one out and never really saw a problem with DB’s balance. Most of my games were fine. Sure, there’s stupid teammates, some that may have even made my team lose, but it wasn’t a big deal, all for FUN.
Most cmm matches i played are way unballanced and half the loosing team leaves any way with no back fill half the time. Its like a 6v6 ranked with out penalties
Quickjoin was totally broken… Casualness is a quality of the user, you can play chess against Kasparov like a pigeon, throwing the pieces away and walking on the board.

I played few matches, only one was balanced yet we lost, but game was fun. I’m moving to server browser now.
