Carrying a pistol while holding the objective

(GoobyOfPls) #1

Ever find yourself in those crappy positions where you turn a corner while holding the objective and someone is running at you with a shotty? Don’t you feel like you would be able to win against these encounters more often if you were maybe holding a pistol?

This is an idea I had, but then I thought that maybe this was left out for a reason. I would just like to know why personally. Is it so we’re forced to use teamwork while delivering objectives?

Discuss

Oh my God, I don’t even want to imagine those devilish Proxies running around with pistols, winning rounds by themselves

Anyways, not being able to protect yourself promotes teamwork, since your team mates are supposed to cooperate to protect the carrier. In a pub game you usually end up with people who farm kills and don’t really care about the poor guy who goes for the objective. I’m guessing you happened to be that poor guy a few times and that’s how you came up with this idea.
I don’t think they should implement that though, since you can just drop the objective and use everything you have to defend yourself. Besides, turning around a corner to find a shotgun pointing at your face is not a situation where a pistol would help :stuck_out_tongue:

did you know you can beat your enemies to death with the objective? two or three hits and you’re good to go

LOL, I gotta try that out.

So much fun. Final objective on chapel both teams were getting downed and there was one guy between me and the objective. EMP to the face and then turn it in! Some funny moments holding the objective

I kinda like that idea but maybe it’s a tad too powerful. But I could see knife use allowed while holding the objective!

The objective melee hit counts as a heavy attack. Not sure what the total damage is, but it is comparable to a knife already.

Both OP and the 1st post have their points, just really depends on perspective.

I totally agree, being vulnerable while you are holding the objective definitely increases teamwork. Because instead one Proxy winning the game by pushing the objective solo, this system promotes a team push. Instead of one person, your whole team had to push to make sure that you actually deliver the objective. Please don’t change this, perfect as is.

make it so you’re walking while using the handgun and cant sprint, and it’s a lovely idea.

(misspo) #11

Well, if you can defend yourself in close combat with the objectif, that you can do, it’s fine as it is. You know, two hits with this cheat and the majorities of your ennemies are down.

Carrying a pistol with the objective and not being able to run is a good idea.

Once my Proxy smacked a Rhino down with the Datacores. Then an Aura popped up, shot me down, and revived the Rhino. >:(

it DECREASES teamwork because its no fun to be the objective holder. Its a chore.

It increases teamwork in a competitive setting, where everyone is a play2win tryhard.

Pubs teamwork can only work if its FUN. Carrying the objective is the opposite of fun.

If you don’t think that running in an objective is fun then you need to find another game or find better pubs. Running objectives is the whole point of half the maps.

I love running in the objective. Just don’t be an idiot and try to win the game on your own. It’s hilarious watching a squishy with the EMP die because he was running infront of his team instead of letting his team engage first.

the fact that the more a player has played the game, the less likely they are to pick up the objective tells me that majority of players do not like ‘running the objective’.

Delivery used to be exciting in ET and QW where you still had to push as a team, and you still had a giant target on your back, but at least you could fire back, and you didn’t have to pick up the bloody thing with a super clunky system.

If teamwork is to ever happen on pubs it has to be FUN TO DO. If it is not fun: people won’t do it = no teamwork.

I remember Halo being fun on CTF mode, because while you couldn’t use your normal weapons, the flag itself was an instant-kill melee weapon. Dirty Bomb’s carryables aren’t instant-kill nor should they be, but maybe we could implement Ability use without dropping the flag.

So hold on a sec, I’m just gonna pick that enemy Nader carrying objective real quick here and revive ya after tha… Grenaten’d!

The horror is real. Despite how cool it’d be stickyjumping on Chapel to that defender sniper balcony and getting behind the defenses with carryable, giving a gentle pat on the back to them all and blowing up the rest with stickies, that wouldn’t really be nice thing to implement :'D

If so many find it unappealing, there could be something to be done better about it though. Personally, call me a bit m4s0chist (wow, that’s cencored?) here, but I find the challenge intriguing while picking EMP; when will this unorganized lot seem to be pushing together? Where’s that small gap between spawnwaves I might be able to slip through in order to deliver? Should I make a start in hope that team joins in? Should I fake to start rushing to delivery in order to get the team moving, and when would be best chance to do so? And so forth.

Add quake-like server wide announcements (monnnsterkill and such), implement hilarious announcement for carryable kill, and there. Every whacko like myself will be a complete sucker to get into those situations, thus carrying the objective as a full-time-job.

Throwable carryable, then? Make football passes with it to a teammate in a more strategic position. XP for intercepting the carryable, catching it, successfully passing it, etcetera.
