please stop with the bots, no need in a multiplayer online game
Carmack on the Megatexture
please stop with the bots, no need in a multiplayer online game
i find it interesting why they want to create AI thats plays exactly like human players when the game allows you to cut out a lot of complexities and just play human players
AI means that for some they dont have to play a game online to enjoy it. If AI was to get as good in the space of time that graphics has moved on then brilliant do it.
please stop with the bots, no need in a multiplayer online game
Please stop with the whole I dont need/like a certain feature in a game so therefore nobody else should either… Kinda makes me wanna make Joe999 puke!
dude tell me that you can have that kind of fun with bots:

(xvid, 9mb)
and i’ll start chanting “i want bots” here on the SD forum until QW has bots or Wils decides to put code into Quake Wars which permanently bans my ip from the game
what about people who want to play this game when they don’t have an internet connection? I mean it’s not the end of the world if SD puts bots in, and if they don’t, I’m sure someone else will make them
If you want to debate bots (again!), then please continue in this thread. As far as MT goes, it could be the thing to make me actually take on creating a serious map other than that gadgy Q4 map i threw together. I mean really, anything beggining with ‘mega’ can’t be bad right? (except Megatron maybe…) Of course my 1st few weeks will probably be spent on playing around with the movie making capabilities of it… then ill maybe think about mapping.
I’ve heard some passing comments in IRC that it will have some decent support, but nothing i’d like to quote or sift through logs for. As long as you can record network demos, avidemo them and the cam tool is fully functional then i’ll be happy! The cam tools were in Q4, but not working… same with avidemoing network demos. I have faith in SD tho
About the Guru’s statement about abandoning certain techniques. I think it is simply yet again a proof of what makes that man so special: a constant, self-propelled interests in new possibilities. He just cannot sit still!
Some news about the differences between the ET:QW version and the latest version of the megatexture:
John Carmack: The SPOnG interview
Link found in a news at:
Carmack und der nächste id-Titel (Carmack and the next id-title)
p.s.:
I haven’t read the interview yet.
Only the view quotes in the news.
I did these two core pieces of technology for them, and explained where I thought the value was and what they could do with it, and they got it immediately. They ran with it and did some great stuff and, if anything, it makes me look really good.
i’m curious: two? megatexture and what’s the 2nd? does he mean the doom 3 engine? or does he mean something else?
i’ve read that interview yesterday. after i read this “We don’t currently have anyone working on a Doom follow-on – I’m sure there will be one at some point, but it’s not in production right now.” i was tempted to open an offtopic poll here on the SD forum whether the world wants another doom game or not (i seriously do hope that not), but then i thought that wouldn’t be appropriate here :uhoh:
“To create all that, you obviously can’t have an artist go in and paint four billion pixels, so there are two pieces of technology that combine to let you build all that. There’s a procedural base creation tool…”
Someone is on an old thread revival.
In my post above saying I wish more realistic AI was being developed over graphics, not once did I say I want bots in Quake Wars. The next poster, and the next few posts are all over the AI issue.
I said I wish more time was spent developing AI over graphics, not necessarily for Quake Wars. Way to jump to a conclusion.
