Card system inadequate.

I’m not claiming to speak for the community here, this is just my opinion on the matter.

Merc cards suck.
The total randomness throws the card’s rarity/quality out the window.
I’m not getting the feeling of having customization, in fact i feel like its restricting me, because all of my mercs customization sits on a single RNG roll and i never know what im going to get, and so far ive got 1 OK card.

how on earth can you balance a game when everything that determines your extra power is random, even down to the weapons you get…

if this game is going to be successful in a competitive sense then perk’s and weapons need to be selectable, and cards could be used for cosmetic changes.

An example perk system is you still get 3 perks, but you have certain limitation to save someone combining certain ones that would give a clear OP advantage:
Offence: example would be reload speed, reload while sprinting, or extra wall hop
Defense: example would be reduced explosive damage taken, reduced HS damage, or increased healing recieved
Support/Ability: class specific stuff like an extra proxy mine or fragger nade, shorter CD on abilities etc.
stuff thats already there, im sure you get the idea.

then you pick you weapon’s, then you apply your card that will have all your cosmetic changes.
tada, a fully customized loadout.

ofc there would be some kind of unlocking system for percs and weapons that would be fairly balanced and not take over a week of play just to unlock all the perks/weapons for one merc.

crates are a little less valuable, but throw in some crazy rare cards with a trading system and once again you will achieve the cash money.

comp play wont be fully broken with this current system, but this really is no way to live/play.
i will finish with, im still going to play this game because its hella fun, i just felt i needed to voice my opinion and see if people agree or disagree.

Agreed. Considering how cheap new ‘loadouts’ are, why not simply choose what weapon and abilities you’d like?

Making money out of mercs and stuff like new hats/clothings/custom mines/custom class abilities (like green artillery fire) would make more than enough money for the game. It’s what DotA 2 does too, and it is super successful.

+1 Nowadays loadout system is terrible, it’s didn’t give you a lot of customization.

In terms of balance the loadout system is easier to balance for. Simply because the devs can balance for set permutations rather than the inumerable amount from a pick and choose system. That being said I think the biggest problem is in that they have the lost the opportunity to monetize cosmetics. Would have happily bought cosmetics if they were available.

honestly the whole loadout system needs a rework. not massively because i think it’s the right direction but certainly a rework. Also I would love to be able to assign 2 loadouts for the same merc in slots. So for example if i’m playing Aura i may want a long range perk card and a short range. I don’t mind that i lose the ability to get another merc because that’s a trade off after all.

Sorry bit of a ramble there

There are going to be weapon cards and weapon ‘keychains’ so plenty of cosmetics options there :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s counter-intuitive, but too much choice actually decreases variety in the game, because players will congregate on some min/maxed builds or loadouts. By controlling which cards exist, the developers can create interesting and meaningful tradeoffs between different setups.
