Capture The Flag?

(Terminator514) #1

I know this was mentioned before, but I was thinking that an official capture the flag playlist might be fun. Maybe they could create new maps for that and TDM, or just shrink down some current maps. What do you guys think?

P.S. Before anyone says “capture the flag is in the game!!!”, I just have to restate that it is only part of the various objectives in the game and I am talking about a DEDICATED PLAYLIST.

I think the lack of game modes in general hurt brink. While I do enjoy the ojective gameplay, without much variety in it it gets old faster than usual. If all the other gameplay mechanics were “perfect” things might be different but when coupled with the sloppy spready gunplay it didn´t work out so well.

I find spraying and praying more useful than aiming down the sights, if they switch that up, I’ll be happy.

(Terminator514) #4

No one wants capture the flag? Guess It’s just me.

(nephandys) #5

I think more game modes would be great. I wouldn’t want to see TDM, but some game modes like CTF or KotH might be cool.

I’d rather have change ups in levels instead of capture the flag. Like three different sets of objectives for each level. Say security tower. Maybe when you have to get to that access panel they could have 3 different places for it. And you don’t know where it will be until you spawn.

Then, you have to hack the safe. But there’s 3 safes and you don’t know which one you’re supposed to hack until you blow the conduit behind the access panel. So maybe you’ll have to go up some stairs and set up camp. Maybe it’s in the basement somewhere. Maybe it’s in that room off the courtyard where you get nechayev.

Then you have to take the code to an access panel. Obviously this should stay the same. But maybe you could get lucky and have an access door that reduces some distance and is easier to get to.

Now get this. Maybe the escort hostage person could have 2 different routes that he could take. Like instead of going through and getting up those stairs outside he would have to go through up the stairs and come out further back in the courtyard. Like maybe he would walk out of the room that has the command post.

He would have a slightly different route. That would really change up the way matches play out. Also it would prevent boredom because the missions would play out slightly different.

Obviously you can’t do this with every level. But I think it’s possible to move objectives around in reference to where they are in the level and the strategy you use to get them. Like on CCity you could have it so you repair the crane from some fuse box nearby but not up in the crane. OR you could have the container that has the package move somewhere else. Even if it was slightly different it would spice things up. Like maybe if the gate is easier to blow in some way at the beginning because you can blow some support holding it up at the beginning that’s easier to get to then you would have to go further to get the package. Or the crane would take longer to repair.

Just throw a bunch of variables in there so you don’t know EXACTLY what you’re doing next but you have a general idea of where to head. That way people don’t go on autopilot. That’d be much cooler then capture the flag.

How about a teammate rescue mission where one of the people on the team is injured and moves slowly like the escort missions and can only use a pistol. So each map could have like a race mode where you’re racing for the exit at a slow pace. If you get shot up as the injured guy you have to wait for the teammates to revive you. But you can shoot at the enemy to help keep them off you and cover the guys escorting you. In addition you can take whatever route you want because even though you’re slow you control your character. There could be a stopwatch version of these and a race one where you start on opposite sides of the map and you’re trying to get past each other to the end.

I posted an idea like this somewhere… I think maybe the Bethesda boards. I like it!

(Jess Alon) #9

You could also have a collection race too. One specific player has to collect a certain amount of items in the level. His team has to cover him to make sure he doesn’t get killed by the other team that’s up to the same thing. If he does get killed then he has to start collecting all over again.

If I want to play Capture the Flag, I load up games like Call of Duty and Quake Live. If I want objective style gameplay, I load up games like Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars and Brink.

Different style of game. Simples.

You’re totally right, modding a game for different game modes never did anything any good. Everyone has always played with what they were given as why would they not, all game modes are served in completely different games!

Also I’m fairly sure theres a quote from a designer saying CTF would be a step backwards! He was clearly correct!

Brink is highly complex! It requires you to think of at least 1-2 things at a time!!! Why would you possibly want to dilute its extraordinary level of gameplay!

!!!!!!~!~!

(gooey79) #13

Yeah but the OP isn’t talking about modding the game and there’s no SDK. Thus, adding CTF would be down to the developer.

Your silly little sarcastic rant takes an awful lot of (wrong) assumption from my post. I’m not saying CTF (or any other game mode) wouldn’t work in Brink. That’s all your own words. But. Splash Damage are known for their objective gameplay and they just don’t seem to want modes like CTF. Thus, if I want to play CTF etc, I load up different games. Simples.

FYI: I used to play CTF competitively back in the days of Call of Duty: United Offensive (you know, the good CoD?) so I know how ‘tactical’ CTF etc can be.

(Je T´aime) #14

All the gamodes where both teams have to defend and to attack are welcome, ctf, conquest,cp etc, all those and some more could work in brink.

And for you dudes that think it wont fit brink somehow, the current brink gamemodes are a mix of gamemodes from other games.

Those missions where you escort the briefcase are kinda ctf anyway.

(gooey79) #16

Nope. But it’s not objective based the same way that the vast majority of levels in a Splash Damage game are. Capture the Flag is a balanced game where both teams have exactly the same objective. Get their flag whilst defending yours. Games like Brink don’t play quite that way, although some parts of some maps will.

Like I said earlier, though. I’m not arguing against having CTF in the game (or that it’s not good enough, I like CTF etc), all I’m saying is Splash Damage aren’t really known for any game modes outside of the linked kind they’ve got in Brink.

More options is better in many cases but it’s just not one that’s present in Brink, or likely to be.

The lack of variety, as well as poor gameplay elements, are the cause Brink is dead and buried now. CTF should have been in there from the beginning as the game is perfectly suited for such a mode.

Alas, even if they release a free DLC it won’t save the game. The community is ruined and people have moved on back to their older games or waiting for newer ones that may actually deliver on what they promise.

Xbox community is alive and well, not to mention expanding.

(Jess Alon) #19

This is true. I find more and more full matches every time I play.

(Terminator514) #20

Yup, full match after full match for me; better than when it launched lol.
