capslock + number keys bug:

i found out if you have capslock on that your number keys won’t work in radiant (not the keypad, the normal numbers). this means that you cant resize the grid or use the alt+# to filter different types of brushes. i was going to report the bug, but they wanted more work than i felt like doing. but i thought i’d still share it with everyone here.

I think that is for QWERTY-keyboards only, vit. It seems to only work when using caps-lock with my azerty. Or maybe it’s because it’s a Logitech? Also, the alt+# works the same way, only with caps-lock on.

Same problem here. With capslock on, the number keys don’t work. I’m using a Logitech Desktop Pro. On an english Windows XP, but using danish keyboard layout.

Quite a lot of applications have this problem, 3DSMax being another that springs to mind. I have a feeling it’s actually a Windows stupidity, rather than the individual programs.

why use capslock in the first place? That key should be banned from all keyboards anyway :wink:

thegnat, it is really hard to lift a finger, press the capslock button, and move the finger to the original place.

if you’re aiming for shift or tab, and don’t realize you’ve hit it, then it becomes a problem when you can’t resize your grid. if you didn’t know this problem existed, then you might come here being like “WTF I CANT GET MY GRID TO RESIZE! PLEASE HELP ME!”. i posted this bug (whether it be a windows bug or radiant bug is irrelevant) to help people, so why get upset about it?

I didn’t know of this bug. I had just noticed the odd behavior and blamed it on a bad Radiant shortcut. Anyway, thank you Vitriol for telling us about it.

Vitriol, I don’t got upset because you posted that “bug” - I just think that the devteam of Radiant should really care about other things that make Radiant better and easier to use.
That “bug” caused by misleaded fingers isn’t really important in my opinion: one look at the keyboard - quick usage of the brain and you know what might be wrong.
I think we are more intelligent than monkeys and should find out whats wrong ourselfes, before alerting some programmers to fix a bug that anybody can fix with one keypress.
Just my 2 cent.

Technically: if it was written with capslock, the !'s would be turned into 8’s…

Basically, thegnat, most people will get on here, make a post about it, and they will keep spamming to ask what the hell affected their Radient. So you’re both right about the facts. But the bug shouldn’t be fixed in Radient itself, cause basically it’s just pressing a button, on the other hand, this will make people worried and get on here to b*tch about it. So what should they do? SEARCH!!!111 Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the search has saved many mapper’s behinds, and it can save yours too!

that was me simulating what a post would look like from someone who had encountered this problem (they would have to have caps on to encounter it). i agree though, there doesn’t need to be a “fix”, i was just trying to share the solution with everyone. :wink:

Aikon, what kind of crazy keyboard are you using?!

I am using the Logitech Elite NumberNumber Something. All I know is that it’s an Elite! (and that’s all I need to know… :slight_smile: )

Still…if it were in caps, it would’ve been like this: “wTF i CAN4T GET MY GRID TO RESIZE8 pLEASE HELP ME8”.

Ps: Did you waste it all on the chinese midgetpr0n again? sigh Kk…but after this round you’re gonna have to chip in for me, and then…it’ll be payback big time (I like pie :slight_smile: ) !
