cant test the map with etpro (Linux) FIXED Solution inside!

(Boosted) #1

heya…i now encounter this problem for the first time.
ive been mapping all the time with windows but since it broke i continue in linux.
so… when i want to test my map i get this error:

G_Script_ScriptParse(), Error (line 12): unknown action: create.

hmm.
ive deleted my etpro folder, downloaded a fresh copy from the banimod site, didnt help.

my current startup parameters: +set fs_game etpro +set g_gametype 2 +set sv_pure 0 +set g_bluelimbotime 100 +exec settings

same as in windows…but there it works ^^
anyone with a hint where the problem could be?
oh btw doesnt matter what map i try to start.
same error with all maps.

Hmm. I think what you’ve done so far is nothing you need. The error is in your script file. I’m not sure if the line told is accurate in this error, but check the line 12 from your script. I think you have tried to use an event “create” which does not exist or something… So change it to be “trigger create” and work those out. If this didn’t help you, post your script file and we will sort it out.

(Boosted) #3

the point is i dont have any script :stuck_out_tongue:
i still need to get my maps and stuff from my windows partition (which i cant access atm cuz of viruses).
so all ive got is a regular et install including radiant (not even pak0 is unzipped yet).
im on linux atm but i dont think that should make any difference.

(-SSF-Sage) #4

Change your map name and try again. Are you sure you don’t have any yourmapname.script file in the maps folder? If not this is getting weird. This is an ingame error, so open up the console after you get the error and take a look if something is found.

(Boosted) #5

like i said, i dont have my map here yet ^^ (or the script)
it happens on any map i wanna start let it be some custom map or fueldump, oasis ect…
actually i just checked and i get the almost same error on oasis.
there it says line 17, but anyway…
cant be that the mapscripts are incorrect they rune fine on servers ect…

doesnt give me an error in the console, only the popup with the error.

Hmm… I tried google it and didn’t find anything that could fix the problem in english. I found something that might solve it in french, german etc. but don’t understand them, sry. This seems to be usual problem, but not a lot solutions.

(Boosted) #7

ive had a similar problem in win but i fixed it with getting a fresh copy of etpro.
didnt work here
the thing is now…fine i can build my maps…but then? always have to pack them to test?
im building a tj map atm, would a pain in the… since i build, test, build test…every few mins…
ive got to find a fix…or maybe some1 else does

(-SSF-Sage) #8

I noticed you try to exec settings. Have you tested if it works without em? I also heard this might be cos of cfg. If it is then the error (like bad cmds etc.) might be there also.

(Boosted) #9

took it out - no difference :expressionless:
really no idea whats the problem…
ive got a fully functional et 2.60b install (i play every day) a fresh install of etpro (download from the banimod site) and the right settings.
it should work…this is…stupid

(Boosted) #10

i finally managed to access my win HD and could get all my ET stuff.
so…
i tried to load my map and it gave me a different error… (i ‘reinstalled’ etpro 3 times already):

hmm…

edit…

cant even test the map when packed as pk3.
gives me the same error, no matter what mod :frowning:
really need a solution for that

(kamikazee) #11

This reminds me: do you issue “/devmap” from the main menu or in a dedicated server?

I’ve always heard that ETPro versions > 2.5 were buggy when ran from within the game and should therefore be started on a dedicated server.

(Zer0Cool) #12

Hi,

well, i am not sure about this but i had the same problem a while ago because i wanted to test my map with noquarter. I readed somewhere that it doesnt matter what mod you use, it won’t work. You always have to run a dedicated server when you want to test your map with a mod.

(-SSF-Sage) #13

I assume this is with linux? Cos I never needed to do that. I’m on Win XP.

(Zer0Cool) #14

for all OS. but like i said, i am not sure about that. You mean it worked for you and you can test your maps with mods?

(Boosted) #15

even if it would work that way i most likely would have to pack the map everytime i wanna test it.
and that would be like 20 times in 1 hour
there must be a “fix” for the problem.

(mazdaplz) #16

it doesnt take that long to re-pack…

i think you can have a copy of the things you need (eg: copy of etmain structure with just your files) and then just replace the bsp, prt and srf there, along with the .script- just paste and replace;

finally, select all the folders, or the parent folder (etmain WOULD be)
and right click add to zip or something like that -> rename to .pk3

i would say 5 minutes max

(Boosted) #17

i know…but there must be a “normal” way.
since i have to do many adjustments it will eat much time.
its simply not an option for me.
i rather search another 2 days for a solution, then i can do things correctly and quick.

(-SSF-Sage) #18

Do NOT add prt and srf files to the pk3. They are for compiler only! Oh yeah. It all always works and has always worked for me. Unpure (not packed) or pure (packed into the pk3), devmap or map, dedicated or not, mod or not. Never did matter.

(Boosted) #19

i know that i only need the bsp  (already made 1 map)
like i said in windows everything worked fine, just under linux it wont for some reason.
since its not a wrong setting or something there must be a trick how to get it working (beside making it with a server…).

(Boosted) #20

fixed it.
little bug with the linux client.
in linux u have 2 ET directorys.
one in /home/username/.etwolf this is where all the mods and maps go
and the other one in the path u specified when installing, usually /usr/local/games/enemy-territory this is where the other etstuff goes, such as the executables, pak0,1,2. cfg’s.

sooo…of course i did put etpro in the correct folder - .etwolf.
but… there is the bug.
when et loads it will always use a “clean” .so and tries to copy it from ur games folder.
of course it isnt there since its not supposed to be there.
copied the etpro folder over there…works fine!
kind of messy bug, but hey now i can continue my map

so i repeat (ill ‘bold’ it if some1 searches the solution):

If u cant test/start a map in Linux copy the Mod folder u wanna test it with from /home/username/.etwolf into ur enemy-territory folder.
this will get rid of the errors and will let u play the map!

anyway, thanks for the help :stuck_out_tongue:
