Can't spectators be kicked?

(Drac0rion) #1

I was stuck in a 6vs7 game where kicking the afk spectator was impossible.

10 Yes votes and 0 No votes and kick vote failed even after 3-5 tries.

My team would have had a chance to win, but after the first half two of my teammates decided to leave, leaving it a 4v7…

Why do spectators have to take up a server slot?

Because of very poor implementation.

It’s probable that there is a way to do it via console commands but I don’t know what they are. The fact that SD went to the trouble of designing a kick system and then ignored specs is…odd. I’ve been in servers with specs pretty frequently and it can be annoying when one team is always down a person.

It is possible to call a vote via console:

Only your teammates are allowed to call kick votes on you (and have a valid vote), so, next time switch to spectators before you call the vote.

We were able to start the vote, but it just ended up failing no matter the votes.

Edit: Oh, I can only have a valid vote against spectators as spectators?

I managed to kicked a spectator once. F5 -> selected him -> votekick passed -> server said he was kicked. Maybe he joined my team at the last second and that’s why he could be kicked.

I don’t find it being poor implementation. You basically think a spectator should not take up a slot, so someone else can join.
But what happens to the spectator, if he wanna join the team again, but both teams are full? Throw him out of a game he might have a ton of points in? Throw the player who joined last out again?
I currently have around 30 videos of aimbotters/wallhackers I recorded while spectating them. Couldn’t do it, if my team would instantly kick me out for sitting in spec mode.

Server slots shouldn’t be equal to the available slots on teams in my opinion. I don’t remember it really being a problem in Wolfenstein:ET, when depending on the server there may have been 1/3rd of the players stuck spectating.

First come, first served.
If a player decides to spectate, that doesn’t mean his choice has to deny his team a member in a fair match.
And don’t players still receive the xp they earned if they end the game as spectators?

Not enough allocated space.

Yes. You want to watch the game, watch the game. You wanna play, you play. You don’t get to screw your team becaue of it. This is how ever single other “spectator mode” functions in every single other game. It was a hasty implementation without proper planning.
