Can't see terrain in radient

(garv284) #1

I created some terrain in EasyGen and it came out fine; I compiled it and loaded it in ET and it looked wonderful (it was the first time i got ym easygen terrain working in et). Now my problem is that all htat shows up in radient is the green and white box texture, itdoesn’t show where the different textures of terrain exist in the map. This is a problem for me because I don’t know where to put certain buildings and such. Does anyone here no a solution to my problem?

unfortunately this is normal - you don’t see the texture in radiant - while u could at least change the preview image for the texture view in radiant

Like Muffinman said, its supposed to be that way. I agree with you that its hard to know exaclty where to place stuff in the terrain.

My solution to this is that i compile the terrain and while in ET i put on the ‘r_showtris 2’ and then use ‘noclip’ to fly really high up and take a screenshots of the terrain from above, then i can see the texture and the triangles at the same time. Then u just have to count the triangles to know where to place an object.

If you use gtkradiant 1.4, you can use the background image plugin to display your alphamap or heightmap in the 2d view. You will need to convert the image to a true color .jpg or .tga first. :moo: You can also use the screenshot method, and use that as your background.

How do I get rid of the hud so I can take a clear screenshot of the terrain with the triangles shown, because it also turns the cross hair into triangles along with the words on the screen? Oh and thanks for the help everyone.

the best way i found to align your buildings with your terrain is to actually import them in easygen. You can just do import .map and then check the worldspawn & func_groups box. It will import your building(but u obviously can’t modify them) and place them in whatever coordinates you had them in your .map file. Just move them around in radiant and then keep importing them in easygen until they’re exactly where they’re supposed to be. To get rid of the hud you can do /cg_draw2d 0 which will remove all “2d” drawings from your view. To get rid of the gun do /cg_drawgun 0. To bring them back do the same commands but with 1 instead of 0

thanks a lot, i’m finally beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel with this whole struggle to learn how to map.
