Can't Rank Up?

(maroonProjector) #1

I know there’s a lot of whiney kids out there who post topics like this, but I feel like my case is different. I’m currently stuck on Gold 5. I’m on a >10 win streak and I just dropped 70 kills in one game. How do I get to the higher ranks? Gold 4 can’t be that much harder than Gold 5.

I should mention that I top score in every game and always go positive. I usually use bushwacker or fragger. Is there any penalty for playing the same merc in every game?

It took me quite a few games to go from g5 to g4. No one knows elo #s in this game really. I made a similar post looking for advice. Basically, I just needed to keep playing and eventually I ranked up.

Isn’t the ranking based on an ELO-like system? Weak enemies, no rank up? Strong enemies, many rank-ups?

Mhm lost a few, and I got the ranking-up only after winning vs. an even worse beginner-team (yeah, some lvl 5x and some lvl5s add up…). But probably you’ll rank-up after the cheater-problem is solved? (Which wouldn’t let it seem like some 100%-elo-sytem@work to be honest, or simply more than 50% uber-natural-players around atm, which I simply don’t hope, but I really don’t know?).

I really have never met anyone with at least Cobalt 1 rank.

It takes a long time to rank up but it will in the end!

Would be nice to have a bit of indication how far/close you are from going up or down a rank, but as it is makes a nice surprise when you do rank up

Yeah the ranking is most definitively based on Elo.
Ranking up depends on how good the people are you face (higher rank than you more points, worse than you less points per win) and how many people are infront of you and how well they play. As long as they all play just as good/better than you, you wont see much progress.
Which is the point of a Elo system to sort you based on your skill level. At some point you should and up in a spot where you have roughly a 50/50 win loss statistic and stay for the rest of your life unless you really improve your skill.

Also Devs said, in one of the streams I think, that they were surprised that so many people ranked into gold. Wouldn’t be surprised if they change the ranking distribution.

Thanks for the advice guys! I was used to the CS:GO system and ranking up seemed to happen after much fewer wins in a row. I think I’ll stick to Gold 5, because it’s so much fun stomping comp games.

I am surprised you haven’t run across level 40’s and 30’s that stomp your ass.
