Can't choose merc at first spawn, fix it!

(Litego) #1

Right now you can’t choose which merc to first spawn with if you join a match in progress, or when you first spawn in warm up. You always spawn with your first merc. This needs to be fixed.

If it is possible somehow, this is not clear or consistent with how you normally choose mercs, and needs to be fixed.

It is indeed very annoying not having control of first spawn while joining a game in progress.

Should have atleast a 5 second window , much like the buy limet in csgo (20 seconds).

I totally forgot to post something about that issue.

I second this. We need to be able to select the merc we will use before joining the game.

(Zenity) #5

You can of course change your loadouts so that your chosen merc is in the first slot, but that is unreasonably annoying.

(capriciousParsely) #6

yeah this needs to be implemented

(Litego) #7

Even if I do that I might want to play a different merc depending on which map it is and whether I’m on defense or offence. So it doesn’t really solve the problem.

(NuclearSharkhead) #8

You can press the tilde (~) key to bring up the console and type “kill” to suicide the character with the loadout you don’t want. You will then have the option to choose your preferred loadout. However you’ll get negative score points for killing yourself. It’s not that big a deal though if you tend to rack up large scores regardless.

(FrankUnderwood) #9

But I’ve pressed it so many times by mistake it feels blasphemous to press it intentionally.

The whole process from joining the server to actually starting playing is terrible at the moment. If i join while game is still in the lobby but already locked in, I can’t change my mercs. I have to disconnect from the server and connect again to be able to do it. And then I get 15sec of wait time after I lock in, the reason for that is beyond me. And after that it just spawns me, I can’t select merc I spawn with.

Instead of making me wait 15 seconds for nothing, put me in the game right away. Put the “press space to spawn” message in front of me, so I can select my merc before spawning. Or just wiat 15 seconds as a tribute to you or whatever.

Also, when the map is finished and I’m in the lobby between two maps, don’t kick me out of merc/loadout picking popup just because time ran out. Let me select what I want and put me in the game when I press lock in. Not before, not after. And then put me in the game right away, without waiting for 15 seconds.

(sinKrin) #11

If you suicide during the warmup to switch merc you don’t get a point penalty. I’ve had to do that plenty of times after running out of time selecting my slots.

(srswizard) #12

Another flaw with this system, that I’m sure has been mentioned before, is the arbitary waiting period before getting to play, when you join a match that’s already in progress.
Your character has spawned, and can be shot already, but you’re stuck looking at a bloody timer.
Sometimes I’ve waited for the timer to be over, just to see my character knocked out on the floor.

(sinKrin) #13

@srswizard Yeah, I’ve noticed that too. That is annoying.

(Zenity) #14

It’s so there is enough time for the game to load all the required textures and such. The devs are aware of the problem (it’s getting mentioned a lot anyway), and I’m sure that improvements will arrive eventually.

At the very least the waiting time has to become more entertaining. Like put us on a shooting range or something, so we can properly warm up for a few seconds.

or at least watch what other people in the game are already doing, like when you are gibbed.
