Can't aim anymore

(silverStar) #1

A few days ago when I first started playing this game I put the game’s mouse sensitivity down to some random number (I forget which number) and turned off mouse smoothing and had no problem at all with my aiming. But I have messed with the mouse settings so much since then, now I can’t anything :frowning:

My mouse is set at 3500 dpi and I have mouse acceleration turned off. I have not changed my mouse hardware/software settings since my aiming has become terrible. The only thing I have changed is the in game mouse settings.

I was hoping to get a few opinions on what in game mouse setting would be good for someone using 3500 dpi and monitor resolution of 1680x1050. Thanks.

go to controls, mouse click default, at least then you’re back to a starting point

Well for one…3500 dpi is way too high.

Even if you played at a very high sens of like, 3 inches is 360 a degree turn on your mouse, that’s still way too high for your resolution.

Here’s my advice in steps

  1. Go to my documents > my games > shootergame > shooterinput.ini

  2. Get the value for “MouseSensitivity”, and write it down.

  3. Go to http://www.mouse-sensitivity.com/, and click on convert

  4. Select Dirty Bomb for the first game, then put in your dpi, and your sensitivity.

  5. Convert it to CS GO, since what we are trying to do is see the dpi most useful for your setup

  6. Now, take the number you get for CS GO, and paste into the “in game sensitivity” box on this website.

  7. Fill out the rest of the information, for your res it’d be 1680, everything else should be default, like fov = 90, windows sensitivity multiplier = 1 and so on.

  8. Now, click calculate for dpi, and see what that number is. Then, adjust your mouse dpi to get as close to that number as possible. Don’t go over it, but get close to it, like if it says 836 or something, make your dpi 800.

  9. Now, go back to mouse sensitivity.com, and make dirty bomb the second game, and change the dpi your estimated useful dpi.

  10. Copy and paste the number into shooterinput.ini

For now, this is your sensitivity, if you want to adjust it, adjust it by centimeters per 360. You can do this by going to the distance calculator on mousesensitivity.com, set it centimeters, and set your dpi, it will auto calculate everything for you.

Your goal is to get as close your useful dpi as possible, with a sensitivity you are comfortable with.

Personally, I recommend something between 13-25 centimeters per 360, dpi between 400-1000. No more, no less, I promise you’ll get better once you get used to it.

Yeah this. It’s not about the speed of the mouse, you can have that as high as you want. Most mouses just lose tracking quality when put too high, despite advertising they can handle well up to 10,000.

IMO between 800 and 2000 is generally pretty safe, with different mouses allowing a less and more.

This document is quite useful, https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZzbKDmFOqsP_ut2RdctD01OEbZzbXol6HLwqVkSmZcg/edit

The comments may or may not be still relevant, for example it states the G502 had jittering issues above 2000DPI, it did but it was fixed in a firmware update a while ago. It still can’t go that much higher without it though.

IMO it’s best to set the DPI relatively high while still in the safe zone for that mouse then adjust the sensitivity to make it fit the distance you want after that. Also never ever move the Windows slider from 6/11.

this helped me A LOT.
seems like accel is still on but you recognize it only with high sensitivity

I actually use a mouse accel driver, but it is a good thing to turn off the windows acceleration because it’s awful. Untick the enhance pointer precision box in mouse settings. It shouldn’t matter if the game is using raw input but otherwise it very well could be causing problems.

I don’t know if thisgame has rawinput or not, I don’t remember seeing an option. Also iirc CSGO actually has a bug with rawinput that is enough for pro players to have decided it’s worth keeping off, which is pretty damn bad.
